Moddified Oem Grill is Done

This will be my custom grill attempt...this is my reference pic

so bear with me :cursing: <-- i dropped my dremel on my wrist in the process.. srry no pics hehe

this is what i have so far.. its pretty much gutted...

next part is to fill in the holes and gaps with bondo so i can get it straight again and to shape it evenly.
that flaky/fake chrome is a pain to stripp offf.. i sanded down all the high spots with my dremel so its smooth as can be for now..

in the image above, it will be more difficult to reinforce with bondo over
that large area.. using fiberglass for the large area will be a better choice..

laid several pieces of fiberglass today to form the shape. once its dry [ 90min or so according to the instructions ]
ill remove the sticks i have on their that i used to help form the shape. then ill go back and lay more on the
missing areas to finish it. then lay bondo to filled in the last gaps.. ****s sticky.. good thing i had gloves on...
have to wait till it drys for second layer once all the fiberglass is laid down, im gonna sand it to form the
shape to match the oem grills shape to make it flow evenly from left and the right sides of the area.

laid some more glass today and here is teh update on this section. after the drying, i determined it was strong
enough, so i dont need more glass on this section, so i did dome sanding and this was the outcome so far.. almost time for bondo time

here is the other part.. turned out really good.. gonna put down 1 more layer tomorrow and
then need to sand some more untill its ready for bondo.

so far so good.. gonna sand more tomorrow and bondo too theirs a better shot in the light

test mounting the grill to see how it would look.. few more areas need to be smoothed out before i primer it..the other issue is mounting..
the stock upper support pieces are their and i can bolt them in..
but the bottom ones were all eliminated.. the bottom piece is loose and i wanna
secure it down good so it wont flop around. so i have several ideas..
1] strong 3M automotive dbl sided tape 2] :mad5: no clue

i mean the only thing i see possible is the 3m tape
finally fixed crack in grill first coat of black is on... gonna sand once its completely dry. here is the pic..
this is the initial coat of black.. i did some sanding as you can see.

a second coat of black has been applied and its outside drying.. tomorrow im gonna do final sanding and lay final black spray.

finally its finished... its not perfect as their is some issues i had [ mesh was a pain to attach to the oem material ] or as nicer as the cedia r/a grill but im happy with it

not bad. but if you don't think its as nice as the cedia grill, why not get it? personally i think its the best thing i've done to my car. I mean you got kenstyle body kit, jdm heads, both of which probably cost you more than the grill would, but the grill would just make it look that much better.

this was a cheaper solution. i bought the spare grill for 25$.. the mats i had alredy so only thing i lost was time after work making it... and the only kenstyle i have is roadrace's front bumper off the drag car.. the rear bumper is the accolade evo9 rear diffuser.. my next project is to repair the front.. witch ill start next

Plus now he's got the satisfaction of having a piece on his car that he made himself.
Priceless. Not to mention it doesn't look half bad.

dremel is ur friend... bondo fiberglass, bondo, for deep spots.... paint i used krylon high build dark grey primer and used high gloss black paint from krylon too.. for stuff that primer dont get i used bondo glaz spot putty scratches.. key is in the sanding.. sand it good inbetweem each primer coat with 320..

Doesn't look as bad as some of the homemade grilles I've seen on here. I'd throw some black mesh behind it, just because I don't like the "I can see into your engine bay" look.

I see the black mesh that is open, I meant something smaller/tighter to put behind that, if you know what I'm saying. That's the best I could describe it lol.
