I seem to recall some Evo friends *****ing about those head bolts because they had a really hard time finding a socket for them. IIRC it's a 13mm 12 point bolt. A quick search in the Evo section should tell you for sure.

When removing the head bolts, it's recommended you loosen each bolt a little at a time, rather than removing each bolt completely before going to the next.

Also, before reusing the head bolts, you need to measure their stretch from the previous installation to see if they're reusable or not. The shank length must be no longer than 99.4 mm.

ok so what happened is timing belt snapped at high rpm = NO GOOD. car has no compression. we are going to pull the head tomarrow. i hunted down a full set of 12 point metric sockets so i dont care what size it is i have it haha. so far from what my dad said, he just tested the compression yesterday with my uncle. theres no compression, and there seems to be a gap in the valves that shouldnt be, so him and my uncle are coming to the conclusion all 8 on one side if not ALL valves are shot. we will know tomarrow when we pull the head and start digging more. hopefully pistons survived. not sure how strong our rocker arms are but they all looked ok. i will be taking pics so ill have those tomarrow evening i hope.

Ok so we pulled the head. Not hard to do really fairly simple. was more difficult to pull the timing assembly than the head. but on to the damage. ALL 8 intake valves shot. the exhaust valves looked good but we are going to replace it all. Pistons were perfectly fine. ill post up some pics soon

His timing belt snapped, which caused the cam to go out of timing with the crankshaft, thus causing pistons to hit TDC at the same time as there were valves open. Pistons collide with the valves, which break things.

Timing belt runs around $50-60, tensioner is about $100, balance belt is around $25, and the balance tensioner is about $25. That's all for OEM via a discounter (like mitsubishiparts.net.)

Oh yea. also. I don't know if anybody noticed it. But you see that shiny Cam gear there? Yep, thats the AEM adjustable cam gear from a 94-01 2.4 liter eclipse. And this has been CONFIRMED thats its a direct bolt on.

And when I say direct bolt on. I dont mean you need minor modification to cross reference it to make it work... NO... its a direct bolt on. I'll post it up on its own thread, or a cam gear thread. But it's been confirmed. So thats one more part our cars can use from the aftermarket scene.

The one with the two holes is the timing tensioner pulley - MN137247
As for the pulley on the right, it doesn't seem to show up on any exploded parts list I have.
