Aftermarket Nav Unit
Ok so when I was buying my RA there was no way in hell was I going to pay $2,500.00 for a factory fitted nav unit. You can buy a hand held unit for around $200.00 but hey the Mitsubishi one has a 80gig hard drive, big woop that’s about $100.00 so where is the other $2,200.00 invested into ?.
Started to search around for aftermarket unit and I knew it wouldn’t be easy as it require a custom face mask to fit the lancer dash and i came across this unit and thought I'd share some info.
I bought one off ebay from Hong Kong for $600.00 inc post/insurance (Australian) and it arrived about 2 weeks from China.
Packed well, poor users manual and no install instructions. Installation was easy with a bit of common sense and I also attached a reserve camera to the unit.
Nav software was IGO myway (prob not orig software) with the correct maps which was installed on a 2gig SD card that was installed in the left SD slot of front of unit. Had Ipod connectivity which I didn’t install as i use a 4gig SD card that slots into the right slot. Can also play mp3s from a dvd disk. Audio controls on the steering wheel work with unit.
Nav software was good, Mp3 player is basic but missing a shuffle mode, Radio is also good. Haven't tested the TV or Bluetooth. Unit switches to rear camera when in reverse.
No automatic night mode on the unit is the only real draw back I found and the screen can be a bit hard to see in bright sunlight but all in all I'm very happy with the unit.
The unit takes about 20 seconds to boot up.
Well hope this gives another option to install without breaking the bank.
Cheers
