Question How does changing rims/tire size affect warranty/insurance?

So I would be interested to hear what people think...

With the O.E.M. tires as 215 - if you put on larger 225...

Does it count as a mod as far as Mitsbushi are concerned and when the $12k TC-SST goes pop they are going to say that extra 10mm did it?

#2
Does it count as a mod as far as All State / Geico etc are concerned? e.g. do you have to tell them you modified the car? (so they can rack up the rates!)

If you change the rims, e.g. get a replacement set 18x7.5, does this do the same?

if your keeping the oem overall diamter off the tire. as to not change any gearing ratio's then i can't see how it would.

and really if it was a problem i'd just slap the stockers back on before going in for service. i really can't see it being a issue though

The only thing I can think of is if you did something stupid like put 22 in rims on the car and ended up with like, dramatically more stress on the drive train and significantly less miles on the odo than there should be.

Don't think so. I put 225s on my stock rims and never heard a word about it for all the recall work and that's when they check to see that things are modded or not.

actually they list some RA's with 225/40/18 tires on them.. tires really dont impact the warrenty as long as your not going to extreme.. like trying to fit 20s on there.. because larger rims weigh more and can impact the internals of the transmission..

Changing rims is fine.. if your sticking with 18s your golden.. if you go up to a 19 you want to make sure that the overall circumference of the tire is the same as the stock 18.. so if you were on a 19.. comparable would be a 215/35/19 i believe.. or a 225/30/19 and that would be fine...

You dont have to call your insurance if your putting tires on the car.. rims is your choice.. i never claimed my rims through insurance.. if i got into an accident and a rim was damaged.. the stock rims actually cost more than most aftermarket ones to replace.. so there ya go..

I think the only issue you'd have is if ALL the tires didn't match in specs (i.e. staggered). Even odd/uneven tire wear can put added stress on the drivetrain.
