09 Ralliart - Intermittent Wheel Vibration
#16
I have a 2008 Outlander that does the exact same thing. Surprisingly the OP is in the same city and I often drive that highway.
I've been trying to narrow this down since 2012 and have pretty much given up.
- Replaced inner and outer tie rods
- Replaced both lower control arms
- Replaced front brakes and rotors
- Replaced hub and bearing assemblies
- Replaced left side cv axle under warranty(can't find a right side one and they won't warranty it)
- Tried 3 sets of rims and 3 sets of tires, all the same or WORSE results, including multiple RoadForce balances at different shops
- Multiple alignments, steering is perfectly straight.
After all of these new parts, it's manageable and I don't get as much shaking as the video however I can still really feel road feedback when it would previously shake.
The next options are expensive and my MasterCard says no. Looking at a steering rack replacement, maybe power steering pump, and worse case driveshaft or even tranny. I can't justify replacing any of these parts due to cost for a minor vibration.
I've scoured the Outlander forums and have started looking on the Lancer/Evo forums for other victims. I don't know if I'm glad or sad that others are in the same boat.
