So this is basically a $1,600 maintenance item that we will have to do every few years? Should be a recall. I know its not a safety issue but it also is not part of the maintenance schedule, its a manufacturer design issue.

I read in other threads that the pumps that were rebuild usually stop working within next 6 months.

Update 2:

I got the pump installed.. I used GE silicone ii for gutter.. it's designed for metal and good down to -51 Celsius. I also used marine grease too.

I covered the box for pump with Gorilla Duck Tape.. I knew the tape wouldn't stand up to the weather and elements, so I used GE silicone ii for gutter around the tape.

During the removal, I lose almost all my ATF fluid so I had to get 1 quart from the dealership.

After installation, I filled the ATF fluid between the min and max. I drove around for a few minutes.. and check the ATF fluid again, it was down below the min level so I refilled back to between min/max. There was no Service Required light, the AWD light was a solid red on Tarmac. Do I still need to bleed the ACD???

Now it's time to go to dealership to fix the rear difference leak (installing new seals), replace rear diff fluid and update firmware with TSB SB-09-002 for the pump.

When it's all over, it will be about $2000. I saved myself about $500 for installing the pump, with silicone and marine grease.. hope the pump is good for 10 years.

$600 for installation is crazy high, but $1600 for a new pump incl labor is still good.

Tough call.

$165 for both rear fluids is typical, but this is also the easiest job to do yourself, even without a lift.
When you say rear diff you do mean the LSD one at the rear of the car right? If so $165 is crazy high! I just replaced my fluid yesterday with redline 75w90 GL-5 LSD gear oil for $19 shipped from a seller on ebay. Well there were also 2 crush washers I got from the Mitsubishi dealer I think they were about $4 each.

Also for anyone wanting to do this themselves you'll need a 24mm socket for the drain bolt. The fill bolt is a big allen plug, 8mm or 10mm, cant remember which. I used an adjustable wrench since I didn't have the socket. Not advisable. I was going to do the T-Case with redline Heavy Shockproof as well but couldn't get the drain bolt out without, again, a 24mm socket. That'll have to wait until next weekend.

I had the light come on a while back I just ordered a custom pump through the company that does the rebuild kits on eBay out of Canada it 1450 shipped compared to 1700 or oem. Custom built has the premium rebuild kit sprayed with a rust inhibitor and also painted with rust resistance paint. I will post pictures when I get it

True?

This thread:http://www.evoxforums.com/forums/sho...=58221&page=20
claims that Mitsu has now warranted the ACD Pump for 10 years or 100,000 miles for the original owner... Hmmm?

I hope this is true... I've already had one replaced this spring free under my Extended warranty that I purchased with the car.

Yeah, but according to some other threads on EvoM, I think it's now being covered under warranty for the original owner within the first 10 years/100,000 miles. Maybe someone else can confirm this?

the dealer told me its a hydraulic pump and is not covered under warranty cause it's "not necessary" for the vehicle to function.

Sorry to Necro the thread, but I can also confirm. My pump is getting replaced right now under the extended warranty. I had the dealer look my car up on their system and it does confirm the AWC Pump Covered 10 Years/160,000km.
