Yep. They are stress cracks - poor design.

I just picked up the car from having it welded and she is good-to-go! $100 and fixed! (for now).

If I get even one year from the repair - it was well worth it.

If you went the MaPerformance route it wouldn't work. This is because where the hot side of the turbo and the exhaust manifold mate are different from a ralliart and an evo. So if you bought MaPerformances exhaust manifold you would have to do a full turbo upgrade as well, as far as my knowledge goes (which is limited) there isn't an adapter plate or any ralliart manifolds beside the stock. On the plus side the stock manifold is relatively easy to get your hands on. I do see you got it fixed already though so for future knowledge I suppose

Mine cracked last month and I had my step dad weld it up for me. Had to order a special welding rod that cost $70 for 2.5 lbs. He said it was kind of a pain due to how thin it is but its held just fine.

Most exhaust shops can weld cast iron, too. Just call before you go. To keep the crack from getting worse, drill a small hole at either end of the crack. This will relieve the stress and prevent the crack from getting worse.

And now it failed again.

So the weld repair only lasted ~ eight months.

Did they head off the crack by drilling first?

Also keep in mind when welding cast anything disspating the heat around the weld is crucial to help fight the disorderly structure of the material. If your welded just threw down with a stick welder with no bpreheat or post heat your going to be fighting the cracks.

Whats the major difference between an x Mani and ours? The turbo bolt pattern?

If that's the case buy a set of EVO headers and have the EVO mount plate removed for a RA one. I'm really surprised no one had made RA headers yet.

I think so...

So now question is:

"Can remove the just the manifold?"

Can I just remove the four bolts that hold the turbo and leave the turbo installed, then remove the ten bolts holding the manifold to the head? Pull the manifold off and replace?

All other instructions (i.e. Garrett[tm]) are for swapping the turbo...

Has anyone done this? Could it be that (relatively) easy?

I would Imagine its all about room. If your doing this in your garage you may want to just remove the turbo and the go after the head. On a lift it may be another story but from what I understand even doing a Downpipe is a pain because of the space. Big question being if you leave the turbo on how can you hit the bottom set of manifold bolts.

The EVO X videos (all that is out there) show it done with turbo installed... And our snail is smaller...

It looks like they access the nuts from the side...

I bought a new OEM manifold. I will report back what I learn...
