Rebuilding My TC-SST Transmission Next Week

Its a gamble with the sst. Hopefully its just the clutches but im going to say about a 85% chance the torque dampner has some springs broken inside. Plus i would change the internal filter in there also. Check the bore plug on the valve body and make sure its not stuck. Replace/upgrade 2/4 shift fork also. If the price difference isnt much i would upgrade the clutches to like kozmics hp10r kit. I've been done this road and hopefully i wont have to do it again unless i go all out drag car.
So you would suggest the rebuild then. My only concern is that the transmission shifts smooth and doesn't make any weird noises. It is a lot of money to do a re-build but might be cheaper than replacing the clutch pack just to have the damper or fork fail soon after

Got it, thank you very much for your input. Looks like I will do the rebuild after all. I will keep you posted on how it all goes.

The trans is already out of the car, you don't think it's ever had the fluid changed, AND it has almost 100k miles on it. Yes, full rebuild. Get that thing fully cleaned out and freshened up. If you just put new clutches in it, there is still going to be a bunch of sludge and junk everywhere else in the tranny, and you're just asking for another failure.

Got it, thank you. I will just get it rebuilt then and make sure everything is good to go! I will actually make sure that the flushes are done on time as well. That way the odds of another failure is decreased some.

I am glad I took your advice. I got the whole thing rebuilt by Jacks (I know you warned me), they were able to get it done quickly too. I dropped the car off wednesday afternoon and they were done by Friday night.
I thought the car shifted smooth before, but now I realize it wasn't shifting right. It feels like an entirely different car now! So far, I am very happy with the transmission and their customer service. Hopefully it will be reliable though, time will tell.

I had the clutch pack replaced, the torque converter replaced (the springs were broken on the old one), the shift fork re-epoxy and reinforced, all seals replaced, gear inspection, and the three thorough cleaning steps they put the transmission through. Oh and fresh fluid. There may have been a couple other things they replaced but I will have to look at the recipt when I get home.

Yeah, I wanted to put the next level up in but I don't plan to mod it, and a re-build like this is costly for sure. So far I am happy. But the true test is the test of time.
Thanks again for your suggestion, I am glad I too your advice and got everything done despite the costs.

It has officially been 2000 miles since the re-build at Jacks, everything is working great still. I wanted to post a review of my experience at Jacks but noticed there isn't a "vendor reviews" forum.
