This is true.....just take a trip to ATCO New Jersey for the PAN AM!
Most of the cars were the Toyota starlets! They either have a rotary, Mitsu, or Yoda motor in them.

Hey guys, this car already did 10.9 more than 2 weeks ago using the same slicks I used for my 10.5 pass on GT35R. With some 1.48 on the 60ft he did 10.92 @ 120MPH! The slicks have a lower profile than the stock tires and they kill your MPH, same happened to me, I got 129mph instead of the +133MPH that we were expecting.
He is a good friend, the car is very lightweight, no exhaust and slicks, but still with stock turbo, stock intercooler and stock internals, pretty amazing car and very good driver.

For those that think they are running on a shorter track...
Looks good according to Google earth!! hehe
Let's clear some other doubts...
This track in particular, is actually facing the east. In the tropics the winds come from the east (trade winds). So they are actually running against the wind.
Let's see what else oh DA (density Altitude) no they are not running in negative DA. Again they are in the tropics! Is hot, is humid. DA are actually in the +1500 at night and over +2000 during the day at sea level. (this is for those who are pilots or know something about weather)
N2O... many people have seen this car and can guaranteed is not running N2O.
So the only thing that can be done is give props where props are due!
This people work hard on their cars, are great drivers and know what they are doing. Don't hate!

Ah... nope. It would be Quicker ET and lower trap speed.

Actually this one is NHRA certified.
There is another NHRA certified 1/4 strip on the north side of the island and 1 IHRA certified 1/4 track in the southern side of the Island. Anyway there are more drag strips in Puerto Rico per square mile than in any other place in the world. PR is were the import acceleration began. I've been all around the world and I've never seen anything like it. Pick a car brand (no matter how ****ty it is) and we probably have one going really fast. Is basically a national hobby.

i believe it is possible, I ran 11.42 at 118 with a crappy 1.69 sixty foot. Now... run a 1.5 or 1.4 with slicks, its definitely in the 10's. They beat me to it 
However, it sounded like it was out of gearing and bouncing off the rev limiter, possibly from running a smaller than stock size diameter slick, which will also help with ET some.

Reading fom the posts above the smaller slicks hurt his mph, he said his 60 ft was 1.48 which got him his crazy 10.92!!! you could hear him hitting rev limiter before crossing the finsh line in the vid.
That launch was crazy guys great job!!!!
