Hoosier QTP or Hoosier Drag Radial or... ???

I'm about ready to order another set of drag tires for my light weight 16" wheels. I have used the Hoosier QTP 26x9.5x16 in the past with good luck. The only thing I don't like about those is they rub through my front plastic fenders where they are in pieces now and I just replaced them with new fender liners.

I'm now considering the Hoosier 225/50/16 Drag Radials. These are really close to the stock Evo tire size, maybe a tad smaller. Both DR and QTP weigh and are priced the about the same.

I do have the Shep transmission with 4.11 final drive so my RPM through the trap should be low enough in 4th and a taller 26" tire is not really required.

Are there any other tires I should be considering? I know Buschur sells the M&H 17" racing tires. I just want to get the best 60' this season. I don't want to remove the Brembos to run a 15" wheel.

Best the car has ran is 9.9 @ 148 (5800')

go with the m&h 17 full slick if you dont want to go with 15'! i have m&h 17s full slicks, the m&h 17s drag radials, hoosiers qtps on fd wheels tire says its a 9.5 but when you measure it is actually x8 is all a lie! and also have on the car using now the m&h 26x10-15, cant go wrong with m&h full slicks, i got my best 60fts on the m&h 26x8.5-17 really good tire. got 1.4xx 60fts all day in a street car 3000lbs

Good to know. I didn't want to go 17" since I would need some wheels but I may look into them. For now I got some Hoosier 225/50/16 tires and will see how they work this Sunday.

Long story but only got 2 runs in and never got a good run in last Sunday and the car bogged off the line with 18psi so I never got a good 60 foot. But they do seem to be hooking. Going to try again soon and will post the results. For now here's some pictures of what they look like.

Finally got some good runs in last night. New drag radials are working pretty good. Two 60 foots of 1.468 and 1.483. About the same bests as my old QTP's did.

What rims are you running them Drs on? Wonder if them Dr's would do good on a fd rim. Yeah 16psi seems to be a good psi. I did 14 psi once talk about a wild ride. Lol doing the evo body shuffle down the strip

I see them 225/50 16 are a 24 inch tall tire and the QTP is a 26 inch tire. Now wouldn't you run out of gear quicker with a 24 inch vs the 26 inch tire? I can see the 24 inch being quicker off the line but it would hurt at the back end right?

Motegi tracklite 16x7 wheels, 12lbs each. Yeah they should be fine on FD wheels. Watch for cracks on those.

Its actually 24.9" so closer to 25". Stock is 25.3"

I have FD of 4.11 so no I don't run out of gear. If I had stock gearing, then I'd stick with 26" tire which will eat your front fender liners so you should take those out.

There any alternatives to Motegi tracklites since they don't make them anymore that allow the oem stud ends pass through on the wheel holes

I remember the Hoosier rep telling my the slicks actually run wider than the QTP because of the wrinkle wall even though its rated skinnier. This was on another tire though in a different size both 28" tall.
