Generally I understand that on a neutral corner it's always best to late apex it so you can power out -- the standard slow in fast out.

Here's how I think an S should go.

Suppose there's a 180 to the right. Start on the left and shoot in and brake late, apex the turn late then stay to the right. Then repeat the process for the left 180 turn, then the next 180 turn. Like this.



I'm trying to picture it as a giant slalom where they say -- "Backside the cone"

I'd put two car lengths on you in the 1st turn though

If the intention is to maximize exit speed on the final turn of the S (onto a straight) I would probably try the OPs line to get on throttle earlier and carry speed out of the final turn. Yes, you give up the "shortest line" through twisties but I think it would pay off with higher exit speed. Obviously that doesn't account for going in side by side with another Evo taking the short line.

... my exit speed at the 1st turn, will be much higher due the less sharper turn curve , so probably we would ending up at the same time at the second turn. The difference is? I can see where i am going LOL that is a nature of the rally driver, i have to see where i am going if its possible. We never get a same turn twice, literally.

Door to door , yes you want to close the door, but carrying speed i am not sure the tight one is a faster. But hey that makes all drivers run a different times and finishes on different place.
I take your word and say you are right your line is faster. ( Different rules and reg. allow you also different technincs to do races)
But when we go to the track i bet i would do this line ... LOL

Yellow line is the way I was taught!
Black line needs work imo but close, and red line way off lol I couldnt amigine how hard you must have to slam on the brakes and how much speed you would loose through the coroners

Some interesting lines and it dependents on a lot of things like the car, grip level, how long is the straight coming in and the one coming out is this an auto-x or a track. I may do a variation of the Yellow and black line…

Doing a lot of karting and no matter how fast I tried to arc in to the turn from the outside while carying speed, the fastest time was to slow down early and hug the inside edge through the entire turn.

That said I didnt set any records - but it was my fastest time and faster than most people by quite a bit.
