Question Stocking E-85 in 55 gallon Drum.....Will it go bad in a period of time??????

Im thinking of switching to E85 but the nearest station is like 70 miles from my house

I have two 55 gallon drum and thinking of stocking it. My question is will it go bad after a period of time?

Whats the ideal time limit to stock and use it?(as good as fresh)

Vin, if you keep the drums tightly closed, you will be ok.

You will need a drum pump. Here is one that should do the job:

Ebay Fuel Drum Pump

Ethanol is highly hygroscopic, meaning it will absorb water from the atmosphere. As Ted said, if you keep the drum sealed it should be ok for awhile.

they say to keep it off the cement floor due to the various temp changes. U have to get something to put the drums on to keep them off the floor. Plus look into a good pump to get the e85 out of the drums.

It is a little more viscous than gasoline I belive so you will have to find a pump that will be able to handle it. As far as elevating the drum just put it on top of some 4x4's or 2x4's.

I put my 55 gallon drum up on cement blocks. I store it in a barn and so far it has been fine stored 6 months at a time.

If you keep it sealed you should be fine like others said. Keeping it at a constant temp will also help. The longest I have every kept it in drums is about 6mons and I have seen no problems.

Hand pumps that work for gasoline work for E85 without issue.

Just FYI

My question is will the gas station sell it to you in 55 gallon drums. From what i gather around here they wont sell it to you unless its going in the car.

I ordered E98 in a barrel several years ago, was actually much cheaper than E85 at the pump. It started going bad about nine months later so I diluted it with fresh pump gas to make roughly E85.

Sorry, just realized I bumped a seriously old thread.

I bought two used 65 gallon drums from VIGO back when you could get them in 2007-08. I drove five hours to get some e99 to fill them up. I use the e99 for secondary injection. I just started using the second tank a few months ago. still working fine with years of carport storage in very moist florida.

pure ethanol will last much longer than gasoline if kept in an airtight (really artight container).
