Possibly the worst tune I've seen.

So here's the back story, I'll try to keep it quick. A friend just built his evo, top to bottom, with the goal of 900+whp. No stone was left unturned.
Head: CBRE & Tomei 280's
Block: 2.0 turbo tuff and Billet
Trans: Built, shimmed, syncroed and 4.11
T-case: built and reinforced
fuel system: double pumper 340's (maybe 430's? Can't remember) and 2200CC high Z Injectors
Turbo: T/S 6466
Ect Ect Ect

You get the picture.

He takes it to get tuned at a local shop and the results are HORRIBLE!!

It can't idle right, barely starts, can't rev past 7K without popping and falling on its face and runs rich everywhere.

I took a screen shot of their Timing map because i didn't want to laugh or be scared by myself.

Here's the before:

And after we started fixing things:

We've still got a ways to go before it's as it should be, but at least he can now make power to redline.

Well it's true that too low timing can really cause issues as well!

It's on speed density. Peak load is 327 at 5750 rpms. Timing logged is 2* running out to 15* @ 8000.

We weren't logging afr's since we hadn't wired the wideband for logging, but it hovered around 12.2-12.4 throughout the pull.

Here's the virtual dyno sampling:

i wouldn't say its the worst tune. At least you have a map to start with to make changes. Looks like the car is responding to the increased timing well. Do you plan on trying another tuner or self tuning?

That would've been nice if that was the case, but eventually I got tired of looking for things that were wrong so I just started over with a new rom. Easier to have a baby, than revive the dead.

Half assed and lazy, or perhaps this is just what is believed to be correct. Either way it was bad. We all learn at a different pace, I just don't like them learning slowly on other people's cars. My friend has asked not to have anyone thrown under the bus, as he's still cordial with the shop.

well I was just making an assumption about the Shop considering what the timing map looked like. Not trying to throw anyone under the bus. Its just kind of a shame when you can look at a timing map and go "bing bing thats who did it!"

West coast has a evo well known tooner with similar maps to Mr.8's. I laugh each time I see one but tbh sadly out here I've seen much worse than anything Al did.

I'll share some of the artwork I've pulled from Cali evo's over the past year. Enjoy
