Take a look at the video. Surging happens at 39 seconds. Wastegate duty cycle needs to be lowered where surging happens.

Evo 9 surge td05 turbine with 20g compressor - YouTube

Mine's nothing like that, thank god LOL.
My runs perfectly smooth and power delivery is great. It's only the gauge needle bouncing and the 3-port sounding like a machine gun that I have going on. Ill get a vid tomorrow.

sounds like if your car isn't tuned you shouldn't be hitting boost, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

i'm not exactly sure what you are saying here. are you going by the video?

or do you mean i shouldn't be boosting the car without being tuned? if so: it is on the old tune which is a bit on the rich side, timing is perfect, and it's not boosting more than it should. i could pretty much leave it as is if i were happy with the power. i thought i mentioned that earlier in the thread, my bad.

Hey Kaj,

Mine does the same thing until I reach a safe RPM for that gear to hit full boost.

I have ecu controlled boost as well and I'm in the process of studying EFI tuning so I still don't know enough to give you a concrete answer.

If I put it in 4th and gun it at 2000rpm I will hear fluttering coming from my BCS area at a high frequency until about after 3500 or 4000 rpm where it is safer to hit high boost. At that point I just hear wastegate. I may be wrong, but I think it's just boost ramping up to max so that we don't blow our motors by spiking boost too early and putting more strain on the rods.

I agree with you being safe with your current tune on your current boost level. If you were running a bit rich before with the same timing and same boost pressure, the more dense air charge coming from the new turbo should not be enough to give you a lean enough mixture to cause knock. I don't think you will need to add fuel or pull timing as the car sits.

i don't know what the deal is, honestly. this is the first time i've had an issue. it's the third turbo i've used with the boost solenoid, but the first that has done this. it does it in all gears. as RPM ramps up, it goes away.

i was on the freeway and floored it in 5th. it seemed to do the fluttering thing the whole time.

i don't really mind, but it makes it hard to tell what PSI i'm at.

You using the Grimmspeed 3 port? I have some good 22psi target tables you could use for a stock turbo.

I do, yes. I've narrowed it down to the fact that I am still on the stock WGA. The only aftermarket one I can find is TurboSmart, which I like, but I need something stock-appearing. Since my turbo uses the VIII comp housing, I'm seriously limited.

Maybe it's me...But the FP WGAs almost look like OEM, but crushed like we do our DVs LOL.
I wonder.....

I'm running stock WGA and WG with the 3port and I don't have this issue, although I get MINOR fluttering in 5th at WOT.

At what psi? I brought it up to my tuner and he doesn't seem too worried about it.

No, I didn't and by "dump valve" do you mean diverter valve? It's a crushed IX DV.
I never had this problem with my TurboSmart WGA and I know WGs don't like seeing more than twice their spring pressure, so I'm fairly confident that's the problem.

May I ask how you have it plumbed? I just tuned my 3 port with an EWG and had a similar issue. There are a couple different ways to hook up the plumbing to make it work. Also Duty cycle is referring to how fast the valve opens and closes per second in a sense. the valve is either on or off, there is no way to hold the valve open at say 30%. Its either open or closed. Just a matter of how fast its opening and closing to acheive your boost levels. I had to change my wastegate spring and some plumbing but mine works perfect now and no fluttering noise at all.
