Whats up gurus.

Been doing alot of afr tuning in my e85 evo 8.
Ive gotten a good amount of Wot knock free pulls.

But i am having tons of knock activity below 100 load.

I had my knock some spike to 17 counts of knock at around 4100 rpm 2/3 psi of boost and 80 load.

I do have a ton of contributions to knoc such as clutch chatter, possible exhaust rub at tcase, and this suspension creek/ rattle from subframe area.

Im almost + this is phantom knock.

I tried retarding timing. I.e i had a 28* on map and i changed it to 29* that is the correct way right? Bigger number more retarded?

And it isnt consistent to this load rpm, its all over the place. Happens during spool ups. Part throttle or almost wot.

Larger is the wrong way! You need to make it smaller to reduce (retard) timing.

Ok so remove=retard just to clerify. * if i knock and am at 30 degrees i need to drop it to 29 to see if it helps.


And i did go both up and down now that i recall. It was only 1 degree i didnt get crazy with it.

And it isnt happening at the same time same place. Its everywere from 3-4 k and under 100 load

I datalogged my way home with live map tracer and im seeing 1.0 volt from knock sensor at times. Just normal soccer mom driving.

Were the 17 counts of knock occured i saw 1.9 volts from knock sensor voltage via Evo Scan.

If you are sure it's phantom, increase your Knock Load (knock ignored below these values) at the RPM where happens to just above the Load you are logging at the time.

I made some slight adjustments to my knock load table.

Also found and fixed 2 metal to metal phantom noises from upper intercooler pipe, and also my front exhaust hanger was hitting sub frame.


Only messed with 2500-3000 table im still at 65.0 load.

Based off of some of my buddies roms I have read over some had ignore 80 load.


I haven't logged vehicle yet but based off check engine flash tephra mod it seems to be a lot ''quieter''

I was exactly facing the same problem a few days ago i just finished installing energy suspension bushes. I have to remove the exhaust piping..

After finishing the installation i made several pulls , i got knock at top rpm - during gear change or sudden throttle mesh from 2nd to 3rd.

3 things were causing this ..
1. loose starter motor
2. exhaust pipe touching propeller shaft
3. Broken rear engine mount

First 2 i fixed immediately , waiting for the mount.
But its much better now.

Luckily I only registered knock under 100 load and pretty knock free up top.

My act hdss is super loud starting to die.
