Ted B. Tuned - 2.3L GT35R 93oct+Meth - 533whp

The owner of this car is local forum member "Ev0ikon". I agreed to tune the car for him, first with 93 octane, then (later) with a 50/50 shot of Methanol/H2O.

2.3L
Built block - 9:0 SCR
Stock head
GT35R w/.63 A/R T3
HKS 272 cams
Buschur cast T3 exhaust manifold
Buschur IC
Buschur (?) 3" TBE
Methanol kit with M15 injector, Shurflow 150psi pump, and fail safe.

The initial base tune had the car somewhere around 425whp with 93 octane and ~24psi. After a few shakedown runs, we tweaked the maps to get quicker spool and a better looking power curve, and stopped with a safe baseline tune of ~450whp.

Next, we activated the Meth/H2O injection to see what type of improvement that would give us over 93 octane. After a bit of preparation, we upped the boost to 32-33psi, and tweaked everything for whatever we could get from it without angering the knock gods. Despite the smallish HKS 272 cams, we were able to get 530+whp and a nice torque curve for this street machine.

33psi, 93 octane + 50/50 Methanol/H2O VDR 5.71 - Dynojet Simulator

wow thats really smooth for 6. It looks more like 9-10 to me. I like the torque shelf it made.

Oops, I was wrong. I went back and looked, and the smoothing for that graph is actually '4'.

I spent quite a bit of time tweaking this tune to get the curves looking nice. With larger cams, it will make considerably greater power.

heres how mine looks at 4. http://i47.tinypic.com/kdjt5y.jpg

i have to play with timing more. is that guys car for autox? looks like you did a good job with timing as smooth as the lines look.

You should make a few back-to-back runs and check if you get 1-2 graphs that are relatively smooth. If you have to use a smoothing factor of 9-10 to get something that makes sense, it's probably not the best, most accurate graph.

This car is a strong short course car. I did a thorough job of tweaking it, but the small cams tend to make things knock prone. There's more in it, but he just needs a few key hardware upgrades to unlock the hidden power.

ya ill play with it more later on. shipped valve cover off to get sprayed so cant do nothing until thats back and just had fun changing everything suspension wise (not really fun). did you have to play with his knock settings a lot? i had to really alter mine or id get tons of phantom knock.

the graph is consistent but it takes about 6 to start smoothing it, so at about 4 is where i should be using to tune with? i will have to work on the areas that dip down, it took me a while to figure out the best timing at peak area. e85 is weird stuff. my old setup wanted 7deg at peak this one only wants 1deg.

I attenuated knock sensitivity slightly, but I wouldn't go too far. Some of that phantom knock may be actual detonation, especially if the cams are on the small side (e.g. his and yours).

If a smoothing factor of '6' is needed for the graph to make sense, start with that. If you're tuning with E85, you may not see any knock before you get to the endpoint, so that requires caution.
