Sonny's FP Red 467whp New stainless housing

Sonny has been making the drive for Eureka CA to bring us his once bonestock Evo 8 since he purchased it. We maxed it out on the stock turbo while being safe on the bottom end but as things inevitably go, he wanted more.

At the time FP was offering the twin scroll Red still and that was the plan, when it came to order we only had the option of the new stainless single scroll housing. Interested in how it was going to work, I made a deal with Sonny, that if it wasnt what it was cracked up to be I would tune the car for free.

The stainless housing requires some custom pieces to make it work though. Russ, our full time fabricator built the O2 housing, downpipe, and WG dump tube. Other than that it was pretty straightforward.

Mods-

2005 Evo VIII
GSC S1 camshafts
ETS FMIC and piping
3" Tomei CBE
EnglishRacing O2 housing
EnglishRacing downpipe
Tial 38mm WG
Forced Performance FP Red with single scroll housing
Fuel Injector Clinic 1100 cc injectors
EnglishRacing SD intake
EnglishRacing dual map - map switch SD tune

Starting with my 91 octane basemap I was able to extract 387whp and 354 ft lbs. There was a slight miss though, so I swapped the plugs for some newer BPR8ESs and then went to the C16 tune. The car definitely responded well to some boost.

The single scroll housing still made 16-17psi by 4,000 and the car felt very good on the street. I still prefer the twin scroll stock appearing housing, and while its small, I think a recast version of it in a 12cm would be great. As it is the new FP single housing worked very well and Sonny wasnt disappointed in the least.

Aaron

I was working with someone semi-local to have them recast in 12cm and Ni-Resist but he seems to have either gone out of business or changed the name of his company.

I should take some pictures of Russ' downpipe and dumptube. Because they are pieces of art. That man sure can weld!

2.2 or 2.3 ... good street motors

Russ is definitely an artist with the TIG, that is no exaggeration.
