Real Street Evo 9 2.2 FP RED BB 650whp MHI and SS housing results

*****UPDATE**** 649/530 March 2017 New Fp Red MHI record. This is smoothing 0. Engine is running clean.

Starting a new thread now that the stock engine is out and the new 2.2 is in. I have 1500 or so miles on the 2.2 and it drives really well. The stroker makes the 4.11 gearing excellent for a mild mannered street car . The torque curve is wide and you can put your foot in it anywhere and its on the power.

2006 Evo 9 SE Specs

RSP Built 4G63
RSP 2.2 Spec CP 10:1 Pistons
RSP Spec Carrillo 153MM H Beam Rods With Bolt Upgrade
Manley Billet 94mm Crankshaft
Headgames " Pocket Ported " Mivec Cylinder Head
GSC Billet S2 Cams With Full GSC Valvetrain
Skunk 2 Intake Manifold With 65MM TB
ETS 3.5 " Intercooler And ETS Piping
Forced Performance HTA Red BB With MHI Twin Scroll OEM Housing
Forced Performance Exhaust Manifold
Full Tomei Exhaust
AMS Pan And HLA
HKS Kansai Service Intake Box with RSP 4" Intake Pipe
50/50 E85 And C16 Mix
Walbro 450 (Stock Wiring With A Boost A Pump @ 14 Volts)
Injector Dynamics ID1300 Injectors
Radium Engineering Fuel Rail With Stock Regulator
COP With K Series Coils
ATI Dampner
ARP hardware
RSP Built Trans With 4.11 Final Drive And Evo 8 Gearing
ACT Sprung 6 Puck Clutch
AEM Infinity Tuned By Jay Meagher

An M130 is going on soon . I may upgrade to ID1700's if I want the last 75whp on E85. Currently at 27psi it makes 530whp on E85. Fuel pump is going to be rewired also. Big numbers were on 50/50 C16/E85

Stock engine VS 2.2 (added 1700's, 3" DP and ran 37psi) Edited July 2017

Ran my car at the WannaGofast event a few weeks back. Just rolled out at 3000rpm (no boost) and it came right up on the power. This year I ran shorter 25" tires and wasn't able to run 4th out like last year. The car moves hard until the top of 4th with the 10% taller 4.11 gearing. The evo 8 ( .72 ) tall 5th is too much of a split and is hard to get accelerating again. I think if I had a 26" tall tire and ran 4th out it would go 155-160. Regardless, I had a lot of fun and drove the car to the grocery store later that night.

Long version

RaceFab NZ oil pan added. Better oil control for the road course and adds another 1/2 qt

March 7th 100K mile mark

March 24th Just over 100K miles. New Tomei 3" downpipe and 02 housing .

649/530 FP Red MHI record. Smoothing 0

April 8th 2017 100300 miles, Moderate power and quick shifts (not flat footed) 136 in a roll race style 1/4 mile. I trapped 132 that day at 32psi and that lines up with my 10.8@132 pass from a few months back.

July 5th 2017, This is the first picture I took of the car the day after I bought it 5 years ago. Like the tree pictured, its grown from 250whp to 650whp and been strong. Anything is possible with these cars if you plan everything out.
101165 miles

Evolution of my Evolution

Weight of the car without spare tire , jack and my 200lb self. 3124lbs with 5 gallons of fuel

Awesome!! I read up your other thread on this entire build from scratch and this is definitely a nice followup! I have 2 questions i need answered!

1) is there something the infinity is lacking that you need the M130 ? thats a serious step in management!! I wish i could do the same, just feel the infinity is a budget level motec!

2) the wedsports you rock are 17x9 35 offset correct? im running some 17x8 25 offset and have a 245/45 in the rear and hate that the car rubs a bit. and i remember you saying you have some 255 tires for your road race and dont rub at all.. i might be a hair lower but does your wheel tuck in enough that if you lowered you would have plenty of room?

So it made roughly the same power and about 25wtq more than the stock block?

The Infinity is a great ECU and Jay Meagher is really good at it. The M series is new and he would like to master that as well. He knows the M800 well so with this box being 15 years newer will be even better. I'd personally like to learn MoTec this year.

17x9 35 with 255-40 continental extreme DW. No rubbing at my ride height, no fender mods . A small 3mm spacer in the front the clear the brakes is required. They weigh 15.5lbs and 37lbs with that tire

Peak was close. We also made 626 but had spark blowout so it was turned down. Once the M130 is on we will put it back on the rollers but I don't think it will make too much more. Going to a larger engine with the same turbo/hotside means more back pressure. At a certain point you can't make anymore power with excessive backpressure. I'm not interested in an external gate or bragging rights for peak. I'd rather have a quiet street car with a fat powerband.

If you look at the graph you should be able to see the large gains over the stock engine. It makes alot more torque 700rpm sooner and makes 500tq for 1200 rpm or so. The stock rods/bolts would not be happy if you ran them there.. I built this car as a fun street car and beat on it Alot.

The stock motor would likely not have lasted long at the power level where it was similar to the built motor.

For sure. It's a killer setup. Powerband it's greatly increased. Bet it's a blast to drive

I know, I guess I'm more impressed at what the stock block can do when pushed to the limit

The built motor not making much more power up top is more to do with turbo size than it is the motor itself. Abacus could strap a 6466 on this thing and make 900whp revving to 9k if he wanted to...

When I get my HTZ Red 2.3 up and running (seems more like "if" sometimes), it will be interesting to compare and see how much if any the HTZ wheel improves things compared to the HTA.

Great results man! I forgot this still has the twin scroll hotside. Since you went with a 2.2 setup, what made you go with S2s over R2s?

Erik, one day!

O6MRevo , The MHI housing doesn't flow well up top so I went with S2's since it will be shifted before 8000rpm. I'm getting old and wanted the smallest cams for my goals and a smooth idle. You can barely tell they are there.
1000rpm 14-14.7 afr 0 mivec.

Very nice power for a raced DD Evo. I love those wheels!
What future plans do you have for the car?

Thanks man. The fun factor is real high with this combo!

I'd like to think I'm about done. The car drives near stock, geared well, quietish, 530-600whp. . IMO the Evo drivetrain handles this power level well. If I swapped to a large turbo it only pushes the band to the right and loses low end grunt. It has immediate response at any rpm now and will power drift in 2nd if needed. I'm really happy with the way its turned out. I planned each modification around my goals and the results have exceeded my own expectations.

I do have a GTX3582 thats laying around but I don't think I will go to the trouble to put it on for that last 150whp and my goals.

Thanks man! Car has been super reliable and fun at this level.
I changed the battery a few weeks ago when it was cold here. It cranks much faster now regardless of temperature .

Sidenote, I use the stock crushed Bov for under 30psi. Its much quieter and drives better then my tial qr.
