I'm looking at a few factory refurbished head units on ebay right now. Do you guys stay away from refurbished models or are they OK?

Depending on how much you get off, factory refurbished is a good way to go. It also depends on the manufacturer, on what they call refurbished.

IE: not passing quality control, like eclipse or alpine, they may be re built because of QC. Something that also burned out but replaced can happen in electronics, again, depends on the deal and the brand.

Like, personally i wouldn't buy store brand re built stuff, you are just asking for problems.

They are Pioneer units.

The pricing is about 210$ for headunit (300$ retail) and ipod adaptor (50$ retail).
I think its a pretty good deal. I just don't want it to break on me later.

Agreed, get a warranty or skip on pioneer. They are notorius for having whine and excessive noise on their preouts. Not too bad on the sub preout, since the crossovers are set at most at 120hz, but the front and rears whine like a *****. That's what you are probably buying is a rebuilt pioneer that has excessive noise. I know here at work we send them back on the time for that problem.
