For those of you who have flip out dvd head units..

Did you guys end up with a gap around the whole din opening where it passes through the radio/hvac trim? When I installed my Alpine IVA-D310 head unit it looks like there should be a trim ring that would fit there but no, it's a tad to small for a trim ring. Really bugs me to have a 1/8" gap all the way around the radio.

they have a trim ring that you can buy to fix that, its in the dash kit metra 99-7001. most single din mitsu's call for it because when you replace the radio it gaps ever so slightly.

its the din sized trim ring. thats the trim ring that solves all your cosmetic issues. if you have any issues, pm me.

I had a IVA-D300 in my 04' VIII. My car stereo buddy helped me mount it we took the brackets of the stock radio and put new holes in them and mounted them on Alpine and then used the trim ring that came with the Alpine radio. The alpine trim ring almost exactly matches the factory radio surround and it looked really nice.

it all depends on where your hole placement is on the stock brackets, usually when using the stock brackets in the same placement of your stock radio, your radio will be recessed just a little bit and may gap just a little bit. thats why they offer the "universal mitsubishi trim ring" to make it so you dont have to drill new holes in the side brackets.

that or in other instances people who slide a cage through the opening so you dont need brackets at all, obviously would have no problem with gapping, but imo i think when you use a cage on this car it looks ugly and sticks out a little too much.

Screw the cheap junky adapter kit...when I put my radio in it was recessed back in so the trim ring wouldn't fit around and it looked like crap. I bought some longer screws and put washers in between the stock mounting brackets that I reused on the aftermarket radio and the dash and spaced it out just enough to get the trim ring to snap onto the radio. It looks 100x better this way and has no gaps at all.

I just used a dremel to trim the mitsu one and it fits perfect. Looks OEM and everyone loves the flip up NAV/DVD player
