OEM Security or Aftermarket
Hey everyone, I am a new evo owner and am wondering your opinions on security systems. First, do 05's even have a security system? It has the key fob for lock/unlock but no panic so I am just curious. Also what aftermarket systems do you all recommend?
Thanks

Worth it depending on what you get, I have Autopage 850. Good features and the distance I can control it from is nice. But make sure it's installed correctly, mine has some ****ty wire connectors and they are starting to cause issues. One of my ground wires was left fully exposed. (Bought the car like this)

If you want reliable look into the company Directed. They make all your top Brands. Clifford, Python, Avital, Viper, etc. I personally have a Viper 5706v with the VSM200 module. This system is remote start and 2 way paging. With the VSM200 I am able to use my phone. Of course for that year price though. If you want a cheaper alternative get Avital. Same exact thing except it has a different name. Still made from the same company. Hope this helps. PM if you have any questions. I used to sell and install these systems.

Make sure it is installed correctly is a must!!!
Or if you can read a diagram do it yourself.
I have the Avital system. ezsdei477t to be exact. All that's wired up is the autostart and locks. It has many other features but none work. Its a rats nest with open wires (bought like this). I have it currently unplugged and using OEM.
Here is a review of the fob though. Simple. There are many key combinations that do various things. The range is decent probably 5 rows of cars in a parking lot. Doesn't work well around power lines though.
The fob doesn't like to be thrown at trees though, loosed the case but the lcd still works. Also, the battery life is about 5 months before and after its crash landing.
The physical alarm is slightly touchy on the car. Not sure if you can turn the sensitivity down but it takes a slight bump and if the fob is in range it goes nuts but no horn sounds. (could be unwired).
Also one big thing is that it WILL lock the keys in the car. There is no prox sensor between the car and fob so auto lock will not detect the key and lock them inside, ask me how i know
Hope that helps a bit with the avital.
