Gearbox oil news

Message: Here is the response to the inquiry I sent to Castrol USA about where to get Castrol TAF-X in the USA: "Castrol TAF-X 75W-90 GL-4 gear oil is made in the U.K. and sold only in Europe. However, the equivalent in the U.S. is Syntorq LT. Having said that, Syntorq LT SAE 75W-85, API GL -4 is a premium high performance, synthetic gear lubricant for synchronized manual transmissions. The all new "clean slate" approach enables Syntorq LT to provide consistent performance and durability under the most severe operating conditions due to its unique polymer free formula. It has been designed primarily as a problem solving gear lubricant for manual transmissions to provide reduced gearshift effort at low temperatures. Syntorq LT is available through General Motors (Part #12346190) and Chrysler (Part #4637579) dealerships. Please contact your local dealership."

Anyone try this yet, I have 3 qts of it. Bought it from a Dodge dealership, MOPAR part number (04874459, new part number). The gear oil is clear, never saw clear gear oil before.

You can buy 75W90 from RRE... its 9$ per lt ... and you can also get heavyshockproof gear oil for the rear diff... the 75w90 is only for the center diff... you should use BG synchroshift for the tranny case...

today i drain the factory fluid from my 05mr and refilled with this mopar stuff, reading the label looks like it perfectly matches the specs from owners manual. the oem fluid looks a lot thinner in consistency more likely a 10w-40 weight oil compared to this mopar fluid like a thin corn syrup in consistency. anyway i havent really driven the vehicle much since i filled it and temps around 70s today so i wont find out if it's effective in suppresing our notchy shifting until the weather cools off and yes this thing is clear instead of amber color like a typical gear lube, hope this wont screw up my trans. will keep u guys posted on my expirience..

ok i put about 30 miles since fluid replacement the only improvement i notice was better shifting quality when warmed up and quieted the trans noises, the notchy feel when cool is still there..seems that it's the mitsu trans character what do you guys think..

What's wrong with synthetic? All redline tranny oils are synthetic.

too slippery for our syncros.. our cars just dont like them. I have tried a lot of oil including the most $$ neo oil and they all sucked. GM syncromesh is GOLD.
