Evo will not accelerate in 5th gear --Help--

I am having some trouble with 5th gear operation. Three days ago I want on a 200 mile trip and can back yesterday. The way down was fine but half way back something happened. I stopped to get some gas and when I was merging back on to the freeway once I hit fifth gear the car seemed to stall. It was like you hit a 50 mph head wind and you cannot accelerate anymore. This kept going on for the last 75 miles of the trip. When I look at my boost under normal operation 5th gear, 85 mph, and cruising it’s at about -10 or -15 InHg. When this happens it is between -2 InHg and 5 Psi. If I step on the gas I can get 21 Psi (Vishnu Xede) but the car will not accelerate and the engine vibrates vary badly. I can lay off the gas and get back on it and things seem to clear up for about 10 seconds. Then it happens again. This kept going on for 75 miles. I did pull a check engine light the first time it happened (P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected). The only thing I can think of is this. A couple weeks ago I installed new OEM spark plugs and when I pulled the #3 plug wire out of the head it came apart (I think it was #3. it was the one in the middle that has the plastic bracket on it). I put it back together and everything seemed to work fine. I have removed the error code now and it has not happened since. I also have not been in 5th gear as well. Has this happened to anyone else?

Unplugg the Xede and go for a test drive.

I can try that. I did talk with the guys at Vishnu and the Xede has never thrown that error code before. The problem is it will be hard to tell if that is the cause because it took nearly 250 miles on driving before it happened.

You sure you put in premium gas in there, or maybe you got a bad batch of gas.

Is it only in 5th gear when you get on the gas? Or is it when ever you get on it?

It starts in 5th gear and when I downshift to 4th it continues to happen. And it seems to happen at all times. Wither I am on throttle or not. It seems to happen more when I come of of boost just before I hit 0 psi. I do not think it was bad gas because the engine is working fine now.

What are your spark plugs gaped at? I had a simular problem but is was under boost only. It ended up being a cracked DV valve. Also a mention earlier, it very well be a bad tank of gas.

I did not check the gap on the plugs before I put them in. They were Mitsu OEM plugs. If it were a bad tank of gas then why is the car driving fine now?

You should check the gap even if they are from Mitsubishi. I believe they should be gapped between 24-25 I can not remember exactly it is in the manual.

What about the plug wire that came apart and why would it only happen in 5th gear?

Its called the P300 code, get used to it, theres no real fix for and it has nothing to do with your exede.
My car did it the 2nd day I had it and has done it intermittently ever since, oddly enough its usually when Im on a road trip(sustained constant speed) and after I fill up the tank.

Do a search and you will find alot of other experiencing the same exact thing.

I did get this code a few months ago right after the car left the dealer to get the balancer fixed. They said that Mitsu put out a bulletin about it. The fix was to reflash the ECU.

Yea, thats what they say the fix is. Its seems like its worked on a few car, but alot of people say they still get it after the flash.
