Motor Oil

I'm thinking about changing my oil from Castrol 10W40 to Mobil 1 15W50, but im not sure if that would be a good idea. I was told that Castrol cleans the engine a lot better, and that it has detergent in it, but on the other hand the Mobil 1 is made for turbo and super charge engines, and has a higher viscosity. I need some info from anyone that has any knowledge on this. I have a race this weekend, so anytime before then would be nice. Thanx in advance...

i need to try that.

by the way, have you heard anything about evo 9 tuning over there? especially the mivec?

heard hks is already saying you want the evo 8 non mivec engine if you want power.

they're like mercedes of motor oils.

amsoil is good, but castrol synthex, i've not heard anything good from.

It's always been mobile 1 and amsoil... maybe valvoline...

Same oil, just different formula they use. Do a research on Amsoil, you'll find some very useful stuff online, not on this thread though.

I've learned a few good things while doing my research while back on amsoil.

I just wish I remembered it all.

Do you know why HKS said that? Anyway, there's already a couple of E9s fitted with HKS VPro and Autronic SM4. ECUTEK has also released their software for the E9. I think there's alot of choices out there for E9 owners in terms of tuning.

You should check out bobistheoilguy forum. They have good things to say abt German Castrol and they like thin oils FWIW, I'm using the HKS engine oil.

i used to use it, worked real good. i don't use castrol syntec anymore because it's not a true synthetic. it's reformulated mineral oil. mobil 1 actually sued castrol because of this.

Maybe they are just used to tuning the 4G63 without the vvt component thrown into the mix
