Bleeding ACD

There have been several people asking how to bleed the ACD system. so here is how.

1. raise car into air
2. top off ACD fluid resevoir
3. remove ACD bleed cap and open bleeder
4. power on ignition (but DO NOT start engine)
5. push accelerator pedal to the floor

the pump will run for ~5 seconds (sometimes longer)... repeat this until all air is bled from system... MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT EMPTY THE RESEVOIR OR YOU WILL HAVE TO START ALL OVER.

to stop pump from running (if it does not stop on its own (depends on ACD ecu type)) you will need to turn off the ignition.

i bet someone is going to step in here with why you need the tool pretty soon and then explain about bleeding the system the manufacturer's recommended way

You can't plead the fifth, you aren't on trial here!

Seriously though... do you know what sort of procedure the scan tool runs through for bleeding? I think someone in another thread mentioned that turning the key on does not produce maximum pressure, so the system might not bleed properly. They did not, however, provide any evidence or explanation of this.

The MUTT tool allows you to power the pump more than 5 seconds at a time is my assumption.

Better yet, you do not need to bleed the ACD at all if the line is clamped off and TC kept upright so the fluid doesn't pour out of the TC itself. It works and does not require bleeding at all. Just reconnect and go.

does anyone actually know if this method works? has anyone tried it? if so, post in the how-to and i'm sure it'd be made a sticky.

If this is the case, then it seems (and I have no idea what the circuit looks like for this, so I may be completely wrong) that if one were to connect 12v to the power side of the ACD pump to force it to run, then one could bleed the system without using the scantool...

I guess I really ought to buy the service manuals for my car.

from what i've read in other threads concerning this, fatbastard's method was for the AYC, not the ACD, so i'm still wondering if this method would even kick the pump on at all. hasn't anyone on this forum bled their ACD without the MUT tool!? i'd think if it were as easy as a 12V jumper wire to the pump that someone would have done that already.

That's what I was thinking, as this is similar to how we bleed Honda ABS pumps from the mid 90's. I would like to see an electrical schematic before I tried doing this, however.
