just got my car running after new motor, oil has air bubbles?

like the title says i just got my new motor up and running, sounds good so far and fires up without hesitation. i have 20w50 non synthetic in it, what ams reccomended to me, and have run the car for a total of probably 3 minutes but only in spurts of a few seconds up to about 45 seconds. my gauges were acting up a little but i got that straightened out so i can run the car for however long i feel now.

anyways, i checked my dipstick and it was low, but i also noticed that it looks bubbly. it looks like there are a bunch of air bubbles in the oil. has anyone else run into this or know what it is? im hoping its just something normal that will go away...

Hell....I noticed air bubbles on the dipstick every time I checked the oil on my car. I plan on going with the AMS kit as well. Did you go with the short block or just the parts and build it yourself?

Your oil could just be contaminated since you just rebuilt your engine....its possible that your block or head wasnt as clean as you thought it was. Try changing your oil, and do a leak down test...
And no air bubbles are not normal air bubbles can damage your engine, i recomend you find and fix the problem before running the car again...

If it looks foamy, you might have too much oil in the engine

I ran a search after I posted that and found some other opinions on the issue, example:

"Question: 2003 Saab 9-3 mileage: 37,000. My Saab has light brown foam in the top of the oil dipstick area. I had the oil changed a few weeks ago and the mechanic said he could find no water in the bottom part (that he drained). Could this be a ventilation problem? The car is not overheating at all and I do not notice any mist or steam coming out of the exhaust. Any advice?

Answer: Light brown foam (bubbles) on the dipstick is normal. When the engine is running the oil can get small bubbles at the top of the dipstick. Modern oils have a mild detergent made into them. This helps keep engine running cleaner and helps prevent sludge build up."

So you might want to have someone check it out to be certain.

the bubbles in the oil are fine. they should be small clear bubbles, not foamy or milky. it will be like that for a couple of miles until your rings seat in.
