should I change my sparkplugs at every oil change interval on my EVO??

I just received a few new NGK BPR8ES sparkplugs this afternoon...

I had my plugs changed when I did all my mods and tuning at the 6700 Mile mark... now my car has about 9700 Miles or so.

I was wondering if I should change and properly gap my plugs at every oil change?

Uh not unless you like wasting money! You don't need to change your plugs unless you suspect they are bad or after 35K miles. (Mileage depending on how you run it)

Just pull them and check them, if they need to be replaced then so be it, if not put them back in.

if the car is running fine why change the plugs so often, even if they are cheap. its a waste of time and money. not to mention we have an aluminum head and you dont want to take a chance of eventually maybe stripping some threads. that happened to me on my 73 bmw 2002. i would change the plugs and points evey oil change which i did at 2500 miles and stripped some threads and had to tap it,big pain in the ***. i check my plugs (stock) every 4 months or so,did the same thing on my 03 just to see how they were burning. only 4k on my IX now and i checked the plugs once just to see how they are burning.i dont think there is any need to change plugs that often unless you have to, and then you better check your tune. my 2 cents

I love this board....

you got answers from 2,500 miles to 35,000 miles

The copper plugs you mentioned do need to be changed more frequently than iridiums, which come stock. How often really depends on how hard you drive. But anywhere between 1 and 3 oil changes is ok. If the car isn't running like it used to, then that would be a good time to change.

"My stock turbo goal is 405 AWHP and 430 TQ on TurboTrix's Dynojet"

^^^^Yea , I would change them ever 3 month or so .

At less than $8 for 4 new plugs why not ?

To the original poster: Whenever you decide to change your plugs, make sure to use anti-seize on the threads to avoid this problem.

If it's stock, street legal, and daily driven, every oil change sounds crazy. Every other oil change seems reasonable. If it's built to race, that may be a different story.

Personally I changed mine at 7500, and they lasted until 35000. I'll probably do every 15,000-20,000 as long as my driving habits don't change.

i just want to make a point about this. a bunch of you have mentioned changing the plugs a different intervals based on oil changes, but you NEVER state how many miles you go between oil changes! 2,500 miles? 3k miles? 5k miles? what?

Isn't this info in the maintenance manual that came with the car? I don't have it in front of me, but I seem to remember it was scheduled at 30k along with the drivetrains fluids.

$25 each plug from the dealer is NOT cheap! What plugs are you getting? Got a part number?
