You should be able to clean it out. However for peace of mind you may want to just replace it and know forsure it's clean inside.

Spun Bearing? Rod Knock? Just curious what happened.
I had a small amount of Rod Knock, the IX was stock and the dealer confirmed the bearings were worn. They replaced the bearings (Rod and Crank), polished the Crank and new Rod Bolts. They flushed the OIl Cooler and Turbo, to make sure there was no particles left behind.

Do not clean it out, replace it or do not run one.

The oil is filtered before the oil cooler. Just back flush it. I have a pressurrized solven tank kit I use just for this scenario. Spray brake cleaner or parts solvent into the oil cooler. Then use some compressed air to blow it all out.
