Anyone surging on their FPgreen setup?? High gear low RPM surging on spool up?

Hey guys,

Robert from FP wanted me to start a thread on this to see if there are a lot of others out there that are getting this issue?

Basically what happens is when I am in 4th, 5th, or 6th gear at or lower than 3000 RPM and I give it a good amount of throttle I can hear the spool up sound that is not clean. In the lower gears if I mash on it the sound is very clean and smooth from the turbo I can describe as a "tsssssssssssssssssssssss" noise .

But in the higher gears the spool up noise sounds like it's being chopped up by something "tssstsstststtststststststststststststststsst" . The car obviously doesn't pull like it's supposed to and I usually have to back off the gas and slowly creep above 3500 and then give it gas for it to run clean again. The boost gauge bounces around when it does this.

The last time I posted this topic people told me that I need to adjust my driving style or that I was hearing "flutter" and not surge. Having to adjust my driving style for this turbo is not what I was expecting. I was expecting a stock driving turbo with more top end. And even Robert said he would like for me to be able to drive however I want without issue, so let's see what you guys are running. I know some of you dont have the surge and maybe some of you think it's normal.

Well I'd like a professional to chime in on the differences between spool up surge at the turbo and bov flutter on spool up. As well as let other green owners chime in with their particular setup and whether they have the issue or not.

This is for informational purposes only, so please if you have nothing constructive to say, then please keep the thread clean.

Check the compressor wheel. Make sure it isnt damaged and make sure you dont have shaft play.

I know exactly what you're talking about and it happens to me to on the stock turbo. I just think our cars don't like that high load (low rpm/high gear).

Where are you getting your pressure source for the boost controller? Intake manifold or comp outlet?

Is this an electronic boost controller?

i have the fpgreen and experience similar high pitched chirp like surge noise on the same 3rpm in 5th gear. I thought it was my jdm metal DV as well and changed it to the APS Bov and still have the same issue. My boost usually wiggles back n forth 1psi when this occurs too, which is why i thought it was my bov.

I have that very same phenomenon.

I've tried to minimize it as much as possible with the APS twin vent, but it's still there.

It'll only go away at full throttle --- which isn't very economical.

Do they have a fix for this?

I am using a GM 3-port and GST boost line. ECU controlled boost.

Everyone who say MEEE TOOO! needs to answer two questions-

Where is the boost controller pressure source tapped from- intake mani or comp outlet

Is it an electronic controller or a manual?

i use to have the same noise, only when putting alot of load on the engine, like 4-5th gear low speed i could hear it. I havent heard it in a while so maybe it stopped. then again, i dont put that load on the engine, no point, just downshift.

Greddy Profec b tapped to intake mani.

See that's the thing. I have an MR and when on the freeway...guess what I'm in 6th at 3K because that's where the speed limit is around.

Anytime I need to pass someone I don't want to have to downshift. I shouldn't have to. It didn't happen with the stocker.

i definatly agree with you, its kind of annoying. i woudld never think of doing it with my car, if i was in 5th at 3k and gave it boost my bov would flutter like craaaazy.
