Safe Boost Limit on STOCK 2004 EVO VIII GSR Turbo?

I wasnt sure if I should post this in here, or in the ECUFlash thread. Either way, any one know a safe boost limit for my stock turbo, stock blow off valve?

Thank you.

you can go as high as 30 psi if you can, but a Stock Turbo can only hold 21-22 psi up top.....

Ok, what does that translate into Boost Limit % ? my base boost limit is set to 230 %. ? So how do I translate %/RPM into psi?

I wouldn't reccommend running 25 psi plus without a methanol injection kit, or e-85. Most tuners get better numbers out of the stock turbo with 21-23 psi on 93oct. Also the stock bov bleeds off boost, I would get a jdm evo xi dv or a forge bov. Purchase mods that will help you hold more boost to redline such as mbc with new 4mm hoses, gm boost pill, wastegate actuator with 22psi spring, jdm evo xi dv/bov.

I have a friend here local to me that is pushing about 24lbs on race gas..he says he wont go any higher then that. I wouldn't risk cranking it up much more then that if you want your turbo to last any length of time.

Why the hell is your friend using racegas for 24psi ? What a waste of money....

I was running 29psi on the stock 8 turbo on 93 oct. You can run whatever you want as long as you have the mods and the tune to support it.

Good luck

the stock boost control system is load based not boost based...and it hasnt been proven too reliable above stock boost without changing the stock boost pill out or switching to a patched ROM so that you can have better control of the boost

over boosting can blow your motor warp your head...amongst other things...id get an exhaust and an intake before you turn the boost up...breather mods always make power,also...if you plan on turning it up over 25psi...just so you can sleep at night id say get yourself some ARP or better headstuds and have a professional shop install them, and for the love of god if you dont know what your doing get out of ecuflash right now and start reading....and dont stop reading till you understand the fundamentals of how to begin tuning with your eyes closed...PM for further help if needed
