hey guys i have read up on this a lot so please don't rip on me or delete this post. i have owned my evo for only 3 months so don't know much about it.

i am going to try and take a video of the noise i have but from what i read about and the you tube videos i saw the transfer case whine is loud and in every gear at all speeds. i have this very annoying whine but its only in first and second gear and if im in a lower rpm. as soon as i get into 3rd and accelerate the noise disappears and its smooth sailing. i am just wondering if this is normal for an evo. also the person i bought it from said he put some special rally transmission fluid or whatever in the car. can that be the problem? i remember reading that weird transmission fluid causes this noise as well. thanks!

I have the same problem in 1st n 2nd gear in low rpms in deceleration. I was told by many people that it was the redline shockproof fluid that was put in the trans. I have no problem with my trans except that noise. I ordered AMSOIL fluids for the motor, trans, TC, and rear dif so we shall see what happens..

hahaha im in the same boat man! i just took the trans out the car to replace the clutch then it was gunna cost an arm n leg to send it to shep to look at it so i started askin around about the sounds n they said it was the fluids. I just want an evo 9 turbo tho

yes it is normal, all evos have that whine noise in lower gears only taking off or shifting to that other gear, once you get rolling and in higher gears it goes away,,,,

remember our cars use transfer cases, if you have ever been in mostly any vehicle with a TC you will hear this noise why beacause transfer cases use a ring and gear system.

ive had many customers that once they pour AMSOIL tranny and TC fluids the system quiets down

thats such a relief to hear!!! im going to get some amsoil stuff this weekend and load it in my car and hopefully itll quiet down!!! i had a subaru before this and it made no sounds at all so i was scared

Same here. Gear whine excessivly on decel. Oil is the ticket huh? Amsoil you say? Does it have to do witht the type of chemicals, or oil used... What shoulda good tranny fluid have as ingredients to get rid of this, or is it only Amsoil that will work?

I have heard this in another field of performance before. With bikes that use the engine oil as the same as the transfer/tranny oil, you have to watch out for "Schere Value" or something. We use Rotella 5/30 for that. It has to due with the additives that are put in that oil. We also use Amsoil in the sport as well. I know that transfer case/tranny oil is usually gear oil, and 80 weight for that. Any thoughts?
