Cylinder head testing - Part 1 - 823 whp base line on HTA88

Spring has sprung and its time to get ready to take to the track again

In the never ending quest to find the perfect set up I am partnering with Super Tech Valves and Headway Performance to do some high end cylinder head testing

My goal is to compare some cylinder heads on my Evo 8 and see how they work and what effect - if any - there is on the power band

The first head I will be testing is a cnc Headway Performance head with Super Tech inconel 1mm oversized exhuast valves and stainless 1mm oversized intake valves with Super Tech springs and retainers. Headway has a fluid flow bench and this head is the culmination of extensive flow bench testing and R & D.

In order to facilitate the testing tonight I dusted off the Dyno Flash Evo 8 and conducted some base line dyno tests with a STOCK HEAD and STOCK VALVES to establish a base line, along with my new tuning platform the HKS V Pro.

You know, with many of my customer's daily driven street evos approaching and exceeding 700 whp on pump and meth, its not very suprizing to see a race evo like mine making 800 plus whp but it still gets my heart pumping to feel the power unleashed.

For those of you who may not have followed my progress - here is a basic list of power mods

Forced Performance HTA88 with PT 65 turbine wheel
Shearer twin scroll T4 manifold
HKS Kansai Intake
Q45 T/B
Bushcur Race FMIC and pipes
ATL fuel cell
Weldon pump and regulator
PT1600 injectors
Stock head 100% stock with stock valves
Buschur Racing short block
HKS Fcon V Pro
JUN 272 cams
Electric water pump

Here are the base lines

The mighty FP HTA 88 - a very good spooling turbo with a big punch

Now that I have the base lines under thumb I will be swapping the head and will head back to the dyno shortly to see what kind of gains - or - losses that result

So HKS V Pro > AEM?

Has it always been this way or has HKS released new features?

If it has always been this way, does that mean the tuners in the states who favor AEM have been recommending the wrong ECU for their customers?

As a pro tuner for the past 3 yrs and having done many many cars with HKS I welcome you Al to tuning perhaps one of the best boxes I have seen.
I notice AMS is also now an HKS Pro tuner as listed on the HKS website, very exciting.

Having used the Vpro extensively in our own shop evo, and going as fast as 9.45 with ease I can say the Vpro is my box of choice.

Enjoy.

In the video, start up time seemed to be about the same as the aem. Should it start quicker than the aem?

Sean any input on Vpro start up vs AEM?

Does the V-Pro have the notion of a target AFR table?
