5th gear grind... 1200miles shep trans

First off i dont remember if i got the double syncro 5th gear or not.. anyways 5th gear has been fine, my car is a drag car and rarely ever reaches 5th gear unless on the street. when it is on the street i dont drive it hard up to 5th gear really ever so it would be pretty tough to mess up 5th gear. i know i have never missed a shift into 5th especially sense the tranny has come back from shep. it has only 1200 miles on it!!!! and only about 12-15 passes on it. i did just have a clutch problem last week so the tranny had to come out. we put it back in and added the redline shock proof to it. since the tranny coming out and going back in and only being driven for about 4 runs on the track it has started grinding 5th. should i try adjusting the clutch or not because i have heard that if its 5th gear adjusting the clutch pedal doesnt do anything??? thoughts or help?? thanks guys!

if you dont have any linkage problems or any clutch release problems, it could be something internal is toast. unlikely, but possible. give shep a call...

could be something as simple as the trans fluid, although it's strange that it would only affect 5th. Odds are is this only started after the clutch install, it might have something to do with when you put it back it....i would just double check EVERYTHING and go from there.

Agreed! I use heavy shockproof in the T-case and Rear Diff on my rally/hillclimb car.

Shep recommends straight lightweight shockproof for high HP cars (and the rear diff) or 50/50 with MT90. And then heavy weight for the t case.

Are you using heavy or light in the tranny?

If you were shifting the car into 5th gear after top out 4th will blow the syncro out miss or hit doesn't really matter. 5th gear is that weak in the evo's

Mine did the same thing after about a week. It actually went away after a month or so. Had it almost 2 years now and only problem is to go into 1st it takes a little slap.
