Curt we talked about this mod and you have me convinced. I might have it done when I take the car out to Buschurs to get some work done. Otherwise, I might have to wait till this winter to do the mod so I can be without the car for a week.

Lose to test this out for our local AutoX.

I may have to convince Curt to let me try his car out on the AutoX course to do some comparison of stock vs modified.

I tried for a while but I was never able to get a hold of Jon at TRE. The only reason I was able to get a TRE diff was because SpeedElement, which is about an hour away, was stocking a few a while ago. As soon as I found out I had them set one aside for me.

I got the TRE diff. Jon answered not only my emails, but also my phone calls. I got my diff turned around in 1 day. I did not make a typo... 1 day.

The TRE diff was the answer to all my prayers. Here are some pictures as I got my diff back from Jon.

I HIGHLY recommend the TRE service. He adds the sight window and raises the fill plug to ensure that the bearings receive the necessary lubrication! Dropped 2.5 seconds of my lap times on a 1:10 second course. Best mod ever.

So when I contact TRE or Shep, what exactly am I asking him to do? I didn't see the service listed on his website.

http://www.teamrip.com/EVOLUTION%20R...20SERVICE.html

Ask for the MAX LOCK 1.5 way Rear differential rebuild.

He recommends Heavy Weight shock proof for drag racing and Redline 75/140 NS (non slip) for road racing. I run the latter.

This service includes:

* magnaflux inspection of differential carrier housing
* magnaflux inspection of ring & pinion and spider gearset
* bearing replacement (as necessary)
* all new friction plates
* modified side sheaves
* shot peening of ring & pinion
* shot peening of spider gearset
* correct adjustment of the spider gearset backlash
* shim kit for preload of both pinion shaft and carrier housing
* adjustment of ring & pinion for high torque applications
* pinion shaft and axles shaft oil seals
* a heavy coat of satin black paint so it looks like new again
* new carrier cap bolts
* new rear cover bolts
* oil sight glass upgrade FREE till August 1st.

If any bearings need replacement I'll let you know when I contact you. It is my advice that you replace both pinion bearings if the EVO is to be road raced or drag raced.

niceeee

yeah i did that on a recommendation from a shop - sometimes the diff "binds" without it. i was under the impression it would be better for the diff in the long run

this is the diff i got here, the type rs

http://www.cusco.co.jp/en/parts_prod...rs_typemz.html

i wonder if anyone with the mz will chime in, to see if there are any tangible differences with the type rs using the springs

it's the internals - uses the stock housing. i paid about 1200 including install for it, worth every penny. i realize that's more than double the tre but i think removing it myself and reinstalling it and all taht would have been a really big hassle for me. and i've heard it works *slightly* better than the tre, though i'm sure it's negligible

My TRE cost me 623.00 for a new back cover, sight window, diff service, new bearings, and shipping!
