Exhasut manifold studs

I'm about to put on the bushur ported exhaust manifold on my car and i'd like to replace the rusted hardware that fastens it to the engine. Like most evo owners my exhaust manifold has rusted over.

http://store.forcedperformance.net/m...Lancer-Exhaust

I was going to go with the manifold bolt kit from forced perfomance (FP) but I dont know how to get the studs off themselves. Is there a specialty tool that I need? If any one has a Chiltons manual or has had past experience switching out studs let me know Thanks.

Just double up the nuts on the stud and remove them.

I usually just double nut them, you can also get a stud extractor or try turning them with vise grips.

So just double up the fasteners and loosen the one closest to the engine to break the whole assembly loose? So does this do anything to the threads? I'm looking to put the new ones in and dont want to use vice grips on the threads. Thanks for the input guys

Nothing bad will happen if you do it that way. Just make sure you snug em down good on re install as some will leak oil from the head.

Yea you just tighten a nut down on it, tighten another nut on top of that, and turn the bottom one counterclockwise. The top nut does not allow the bottom nut to loosen, so it turns the whole stud. Loosen it til it comes out.
