Q: Can you... Evo 8 Transmission in FWD format only?
Instead of guessing... would someone mind answering a question for me?
Can you put an Evo 8 AWD transmission in a car (Non-Evo for example) and run it in a FWD format with out ever hooking up a drive shaft or rear end?
I know people have pulled the front axles out and installed some caps to convert to RWD but will it work the other way around? I would think it would be fine considering its a FWD based AWD system but i wanted to ask someone with some experience in the issue.
And if you can't... what could be done so that you can?
Thanks Guys,

You'd have to run the transfer case, but a welded center diff would let you use an EVO tranny/TC in FWD or RWD only.
The other thing that may be possible is to get a custom center diff that drove the axles directly instead of driving the front diff. Then you could eliminate the transfer case. You'd also need to come up with custom half shafts and some modifications to the case and seals.
You never know though, there may be Mitsu parts that would do just this.

Gotta think out side the box... lol.
No, its going into my project Mirage but i don't have everything i need for the whole AWD swap and would like to run it in FWD and then when i have everything together, next year or so i'll finish up the AWD swap. I had bought a cheap G4JS Manual Trans hoping i could use it for the time being but that turned out to be a fail for a bunch of small reasons. So this is option 3! (Option 2 was buying a 3G Eclipse Trans but that's harder then it looks.) Not to mention, as crazy as it sounds... an Evo 8 transmission is cheaper then a 3G Eclipse Manual Trans and much easier to find.
Thanks for the input and support guys!
P.S: Anyone have a messed up or spare Center Diff they wanna sell me? Or even a cheap Evo trans there trying to get rid of? PM me if so and THX!

Sorry to resurect an old thread, but I too spent ages searching for a way to convert EVO IV onwards boxes to FWD, in the end made a kit to do it.
The conversion includes a transfer blanking plate, new bearings and quaife LSD, this all then mates up to standard EVO internals, or in my case Im running a PPG Drag Dog box rated at 1000bhp
if you want more info drop me an email
