2.0L 4G63 or 2.4L 4g64

So I currently have a complete perfect condition 4g63 sitting in my garage and I want to do some kind of build before I swap it in. My car has 97K on the motor, but it runs great so I'm not in a hurry.

I cant decide whether I want to build the the 4g63 in some way, but leaving it 2.0L or if I want to do the 4g64 block and have a 2.4L. I know I dont want to stroke the 4g63, not a fan of the rpm loss.

The turbo I want to use in a MAP upgraded 9 turbo. It is brand new with 0 miles on it.

I want to run 91 octane right now, but eventually I'll be running E85 (my county is getting it soon)

This is a DD/autox car. I want to eventually take it to a track but that wont be very often, and I dont really drag race alot, its hard on the drivetrain

Which build should I go with?

4g64 2.4L is a wicked street / auto X motor.. If your not drag racing and needing the high rom the 2.4L is an awesome choice for a daily.. 1 of my favorite motor setups for the street..

Yeah I just started reading about them and it looks like a super cool and fun build, that's why i'm so interested in it

Would it take a lot to make the 4g64 rev 8000rpm? I'd be happy with at that, beacuse that's what I'm doing with my current motor. Of course if i built a 2.0L 4g63 that thing would be built to scream

The 4g64 can spin 8k.. Thats where we like to stop it though for longevity..

Thats a bad suggestion IMO.. You also would NEVER know if there were issues.. with a 4spd T400 Trans they are probably geared to not need 9k and out of the owners mouth they have had plenty of issues keeping headgaskets on the car.. so you cannot say NO ISSUES.. Not trashing MAP at all but i dont like to suggest ANYONE to run a 4g64 Stock crank to 9000rpm..

As was stated for street driving 8K is enough.....just cause someone else does it doesn't make it right + plus the MAP cars are purpose built drag cars (i believe)

We've certainly had our fair share of head gasket issues, but keep in mind the RX-7 is a 6 bolt DSM platform and there are some significant differences in the cylinder heads. We are exploring some reinforcement options in regards to the cooling pockets as we speak as they lie just below the fire ring. The real test will be the Evo, but until we sort out our drivetrain gremlins we won't have much feedback.

In regards to gearing our 83mm turbo is one laggy beast, we try and keep it between 7500-9000 RPMs at all times and we are hitting the top end of that in first and second. With that said, most of the applications out there won't have our spool problem, and as such there shouldn't really be a need to rev to 9k so I agree with Mike, err on the side of caution and longevity
