Bushwacker Stage 1 making rattling noise (Sound clip attached)
Hi guys,
I bought a Bushwacker Stage 1 with about 6K (alleged) miles on it. After fitting it on my car with a Competition Clutch 5152-2100, I experience noise in 2nd, 3rd, 4th gears (not sure about 5th, haven't checked). The noise might also happen in 1st but it's probably drowned out by the whirring of 1st gear and the exhaust noise.
Basically it sounds like little ball bearings or something are lose in the box, it's not like the clutch chatter noise or coffee grinder noise, this sounds a bit more sinister and seems to have a rhythm. The noise is mostly noticeable at around 2.8k RPM with slight throttle applied, the noise increases in speed as more throttle is given but it is drowned out by the exhaust.
The deceleration noise in 1st is also loud, I had a stock box before and the deceleration noise was noticeable but this one is way louder and more high pitched.
I've attached an MP3 recording, it's hard to hear in the clip but you can notice the noise most at 25s. I've also recorded the 1st gear deceleration noise at the end.
This all started when I installed this box along with a Competition Clutch 5152-2100. I'm using the bearing that came with the clutch.
I was wondering there's anything in the Bushwacker Stage 1 that would make it make this noise? Is the box stuffed? The box was from a USDM Evo 9 RS.

Does yours happen only when the car is in gear and moving?
Edit: If it's that noise that you're getting at idle that you're talking about, I've had it in my last box and this one and I'd say it's nothing to worry about. The noise I'm talking about in this thread is occurring while the car is in gear and moving.

Mine does it in neutral and under load. In first gear I can't really hear it as much as in neutral or 2nd and 3rd. Does yours sound similar to mine? I can't hear that Audio clip unless I sign up. Will you email me the file so I can hear it? CorbinAdams9@gmail.com

Sent, I've been driving the car for a few days now and it doesn't seem to be getting worse.
I noticed that the Buschur has put "heavy roll pins" into the trans, I don't know WTF heavy roll pins are but this sound is what I'd imagine they'd sound like LOL.

I'll have a look today but I believe it may.
The seller has gotten back to me and advised that the noise is because the transmission has been recently rebuilt and the bearings are still tight. I have observed that the noise seems to get quieter once the transmission warms up. It also seems like the first gear whirring has also reduced.

The sounds are distinct and different.
Also have you checked with David Buschur about this?
He stands behind his products and will know what sounds go what what issue if any at all.

I sent Buschur an e-mail but they didn't reply.
Some of the noise was definitely clutch noise caused by by CC Stage 2 5152-2100. Changing to an Exedy HD MBK-7420HD made some of those noises go away.
The actual gearbox noise initially described gradually declined till it was barely noticeable. Seller said that it was because it was recently rebuilt and everything was still tight which I guess is plausible as the noise has gone away.
