Changing BOV from circulation to Atmosphere ?!!

Hey guys
i have Evo 9 . . .
so i have HKS Super SQV Blow off valve,
and i have it set up circulated.
but i really love the distinctive Whistle sound of the ( Gold insert )
so i bought the ( gold insert ) and installed it.
so my question is : Does it effect the tuning in my car ?
like the air/fuel ratio and such ?
will it force my car running rich ?

PS : i haven't turned on my car yet ! i'm waiting for answers to my questions and approve that it wont damage my car.

Yes, most likely you will come to a stop light and always stall, LOL

Since it is MAF based system you are changing the pressure when the BOV works.

I would get a tune.

Guys with WRX's love to put that on until they realize that the car dumps fuel and the precat breaks down before the turbo and bam. need a turbo. STI's dont have the precat in the up pipe like the WRX does, LOL

if you're MAF (which you are) you should be recirculated

if you're SD (which you're not) you can be recirculated or VTA

I personally don't own an Evo but have read up on many things over the past couple of years on the site, I own a first gen Ralliart. Anywho, Most guys will tell you Recirc is the way to go hands down, as I've read somewhere on here, "Kill the ricer in you now" as in, just because it sounds cool doesn't mean the car will respond well to it. As for MAF and SD, usually cars come with a MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor on the intake. Which adjusts fuel/air I believe, someone correct me if I'm wrong. SD is Speed Density, which is generally the route most people go to have more accurate readings and adjustments. So all in all, if I were you and I had my "soon to be Evo" now. I would run Recirculated with MAF no questions asked (which is the situation you're in). Then eventually move to a Speed density setup, still with a Recirculated DV. (DV = BOV most people like Diverter Valve better than BOV ) Hope I helped a little! Again I don't own an Evo, this is just what I've come across browsing which I recommend you do as much as possible.

Vent to atmosphere doesn't help performance. There's really no reason to do it, however if you're on speed density then you are able to because speed density because the engine measures a/f based on manifold absolute pressure (map sensor) instead of mass air flow.

If you're on a MAF setup, then basically the ecu reads x units of air and adds x units of fuel to meet the specified air/fuel ratio on the tuning map. With a vent to atmosphere valve you're letting half of the air out of the system that's already been counted, and the ecu adds lots of extra fuel to meet the volume of air that the ecu thinks is still n the system.

Honestly if you don't know what a MAF is, then you should do some research before you start modding your car. Honestly 90% of the people that buy an evo as their first turbo car want to run out and buy an hks valve for some reason. Do yourself a favor and READ. You'll save yourself from a lot of flaming, and buying parts that you'll regret when your car runs like garbage.

oh ok ,
Thank you
you gave the basic info i needed to start a research on ( MAF & SD )

There are BOV's that will vent both to the air and recirc.

I think the consensus reads: keep the stock BOV lol

Especially if you have this many questions.
