chatter/rattle noise at 3000-3300rpm

Before I rebuilt my engine, it never did this noise. There would be a chatter/rattle around 3k and 3300 rpms only. It only does it when I'm in gear, never in neutral or clutch pressed in. I have an exedy twin with upgraded ACT monoloc. Its like a metal on metal noise. Please help

I have a monoloc and hear the same thing. I think this means I need a louder exhaust.

it could be your dp i am trying to fix mines as we speak.Just rebuilt my motor and now end up with a rattling sound coming from under the exhaust.when the car is on the lift no noise, soon as you drive it on the road you can hear it making the rattling noise.I inspected it on the lift its touching on the subframe strange yeah but now i am about to install my new dp and donut gasket.I believe in my situation a switch was made with my dp pipe and may have not been intentional shop will not take responsibility for that so hopefully should be taken care of with the new dp.I would check to see if they use a donut gasket or no good luck.

You still have the balance shafts? Could be those being misaligned?

balance shafts cause vibrations not rattling sounds.

I have an exhaust rattle that happens around 2.6-2.8k rpm. The exhaust hits the rear diff bolt and causes annoying buzz.

I take it you have never been in a car where the balance shafts were 180* out.

It'll most certainly rattle like a SOB

Hey man, I have the same problem and it has to deal with the input shaft bearing within the transmission. Has your car thrown a missfire code and gone into limp mode at those rpms in 5th gear? What year is the car?

My car does not misfire or go into limp at all. I found out my car does this rattle/rhaspy/chatter a dead stop in neutral or in gears. It didn't do it before I took the engine out. I have a Shep trans.

I will have someone rev the engine while I listen for the noise. I will report back.

I have the same issue on a 2.3. Its not very loud but I hear it at the same rpm and a little lower when under part throttle around 2.8-3.3k. The motor has about 12,000 miles and makes good power so I'm lost. If it breaks then I guess I will know.

Update: I went for a power pull and it sounded like I threw a rod through my block. I was scared. Come to find out my started cover blew off. On the way home, the chatter/rattle went away. Hope this helps anybody with this issue
