Spotting fake Denso ignition coils for COPs

Thought this info might be helpful. If you have a COP, or are working on a DIY setup.

First and most obviously is the difference in labeling. Legitimate coils should be marked 'TOYOTA 90919-02240 DENSO MADE IN JAPAN'

Knockoffs are also slightly longer and aren't flared at the end like legit coils.

The plugs are similar and will plug in as with normal coils.

I also just played around with a multimeter on both of these for a little bit and found a much higher resistance present in the knockoff coils. Not sure how well they work or the effects of using them, however I just thought I might put this out there. I got screwed because I typed in the coil part number, NOT 'Denso ignition coil.' Typically knockoff sellers list them as 'Toyota ignition coil' with an 'interchange' number matching the part number. Knockoffs go for as low as $50 for a set, but legitimate ones start around $90 for a set.

Just thought I'd throw this comparison up there!

legitimate denso coils retail for about $60-70 new (each, not per set) unless you have a hookup source for them

Brand new? I usually pull mine from a yard for around the aforementioned price. You can see on the legitimate ones they're still covered in dirt and pollen, those cost me $90 for a set. The fakes were brand new, on the other hand.
