Transfer case whines in 1st thru 2nd gear but it stops during anything higher than that, you can clearly hear it in the video provided by the link below. I know i will need a rebuild but would changing the oil prolong the life any? any info is welcome, thanks! Ohh it's a 2003 evo 8 with 93k miles on the clock.

This whine is normal in 1st and 2nd gear. Most Evos have that whine. Try using AMSOIL transmission and transfercase fluid, I've heard many people praise the oil and how it quietens the whine.

Thanks for your insight I'm still going to change the oil but I'm sticking to oem for now

My was doing that and like two weeks later gone complete. Have to replace it and put a new one. Jack transmission gives good offer to rebuild transfer case. Good luck

Yeah that's what I'm thinking now. I'm doing the timing belt service soon so the drivetrain fluids will be replaced then. Thanks for the info

That's normal and one of the sounds that I like about my Evo. Mine has done that since it was new.

Yep, normal. Mine whines in third a bit too, and then the rear end whines in 5th. lol

My VIII killed two t-cases, and yeah, it's a pretty distinctive sound.
