Ebay Fmic?

Is anyone running a eBay style fmic on a evo 8? I saw one made by CXracing and it has the same dimensions as ETS front mount which I love because it fills the entire front grill. But ETS is 600$ while the CXracing is 300$ shipped. Here is a link to the EBay Fmic.

Lmk what you guys think.

It's not all about the size. ETS internal fins are very well designed. You get what you pay for!

There was a test done a long time ago by Buschur that showed a colossal increase in air intake temperatures between an Ebay FMIC and a legit Garret core FMIC.

The difference between both was around 40 - 50 degrees Fahrenheit if my memory serves me well.

In other words, you're better off going straight from the turbo compressor to your throttle body rather than having an intercooler between them... Well, not really, but you catch my drift.

just get an ets 3.5 and be set and confident you are getting a quality part.

Buschurs test

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...cts-truth.html

I originally ran cx racing FMIC a while back. I had my mind set the same way. "its the same" i thought. I was making power, thought the ets/buschur cores were just marked up.
I went to the track one night, and made 2 passes. Then someone broke on the track and they were cleaning up. It was a 30-45 min cleanup. I randomly decided to go touch my fmic end tanks.
My hot side was HOT, my cold side was warm. I'm aware the intercooler doesn't cool unless you are driving to allow air flow through. But it didn't dissipate heat at all. But at that point it was like an oven. When air will pass through it will just heat up. The next morning I went ahead and purchased a ets FMIC( i currently have buschur race FMIC) and both have been nothing but amazing. I can do a pull, back to back. and then get out of the car and touch the endtanks only to have my hotside warm and my cold side... cold lol

I hope this is alittle insight. I know its not Professional testing but it is just as accurate as the Butt dyno lol

I remember that test as well. Like people have posted... Buy a quality part. You'll thank yourself later

CXRacing core personally have seen it go 10 seconds. Just heat soaks a lot during the day but it does its work. If its for 1 or 2 passes its fine or if you dont live in a warm area.

Get a VSRF Core for around 350 bucks its a good deal and I have used it both along with ETS/Buschur. It has held its own very well!!!

You bought a high performance car...no reason to cheap out and buy Ebay parts. The only Ebay part I ever bought for my EVO was a SS downpipe/test pipe. Most anything else stick with good quality parts. It makes all the difference.

I would never buy an intercooler from Ebay. There's actually not much that I will buy for my car on Ebay.

The ETS 3.5 intercooler is going to weigh more than your stock unit. I can't say for sure about the ebay unit. Your stock I/C is somewhat thin so naturally the bigger aftermarket cores will weigh a bit more.
