The right clutch for a lil over stock evo 9
Ive been out of the game for a while so be easy on me. Im having Shepstrans rebuild my Evo 9 tranny right now and I'm going replace the clutch. The car is going to be set up with basic bolt ons and tune, not going for big numbers just want a good daily.
my question is what clutch do you guys like for that set up? any tips would be great..

Also the pedal feel is much closer to stock than the Exedy as far as release point and stiffness IMO.

+1 for Exedy Stage 1 organic (05803HD)
CBRD recommended this clutch, and I've been using it for a few years now on my daily driver (basic bolt ons and a tune, stock flywheel). It's slightly heavier than stock, but I got used to it pretty quickly. Highly recommended for this application.

XTSS, inexpensive, holds like a bear trap and LASTS (Do you know how much it costs to swap a clutch!!!) My Evo IX MR had one put in at 46,000 miles and currently has 124,000 on it and it still holds perfectly fine.

I think it's possible that for many of the times that people report having a clutch lock out on them, it could be due to the fact that the higher clamping force will only accent any problem these cars already have with drivetrain movement causing lockout. So if you go from a worn clutch that was slipping, to a new clutch with a stronger clamping force, it may just be time to get some motor mounts.

Adjust the clutch for proper use. If you are extremely scared of lockout get a Sprung 6 puck which is far less likely to lock out. A six puck will hold a LOT of power. I believe an un-sprung unit would hold well over 700WHP. Keep it simple. The twin discs are nice and fancy however thy do not last and cost so god dang much plus the labor to replace it. I mean the Exedy SD slips over 400HP, what is the point when an off the shelf XTSS would hold about 550WHP and LASTS!!! Is it smooth as the Exedy? Nope, but how much is smooth worth to you?

Can't really go wrong between the ACT XTSS (could even get the hdss for a lighter pedal), a Comp STG 2, and the Exedy STG 1 organic..

I would skid the HDSS altogether, it isn't that heavy. At least to me however I have been driving a 4G63 of some sort with a heavy pressure plate since the 90's. XTSS all the way. HDSS leaves no room to grow, XTSS can handle some serious power and torque. Either one is a superior choice to a SD Exedy twin.
