FRESH ENGINE; Fuel & Spark but NO START

Hey guys,

Dropped in my freshly built 2.4LR block in my Evo 9, went to start it up, and it just cranks but wont start.

I have a fresh break-in tune from Tom AKA TSComp so I don't think it's a tune related problem.

I pulled a spark plug and verified that I have spark, and I pulled the return fuel rail, and fuel poured out. I can hear the fuel pump and activate it via the actuator in evo scan too.

I attached some pictures of my timing belt, but I think it's spot on. Tom advised me since I'm using the stock cam gears to have both gears 1/2 tooth advanced.

Checked the fuse block in the bay and the engine fuses checked fine.

Anyone have any ideas on what could be my problem?

@egis - Yes! I made sure of that. I rotated it about 20 times, and let it sit overnight and cranked it a few more times to ensure it was still in time and the tensioner was fine.

@1UpMoto- How would I verify if the injectors are firing?

random, silly question: is your crank angle sensor plugged in? i'm assuming so, otherwise you would have a CEL and probably no fuel in the rail.

just tossing out ideas.

Yes! I definitely made sure to plug it in. I wish it was something silly like that lol, but that's not my luck.

I'm almost 100% positive that it's all installed correctly. I will see if I took a pic of that in my engine build album on my phone but I'm pretty sure that it's correct.

Do you have a reading comprehension problem? He said it's a fresh build. I'm quite sure that isn't the problem.

It's just me but your one picture it looks to be off time but what do I know. Why did he say to run it half advanced? That doesn't make any sense. AFAIK they should be dead on. My intake cam was off by a tooth and it wouldn't idle for crap. It did run but poorly. Both of yours look out.

I'm going to check compression in the A.M. for the hell of it. I would think I should get at least something.

Like I replied to 4G63u, I'll run a compression test for the hell of it. I'm sure I'm not going to get healthy numbers but I think I'd get something.

What picture were you referring to being out of time? the trigger wheel? My cam wheels are 1/2 tooth advanced because it's a 2.4LR so it makes up for the 6mm difference of blocks is basically what I was told, and since I'm not running adjustable gears thats how to make it in time is how I understand it.

I'll edit the post if I didnt specify 2.4LR.

I'll double check but Tom disables the immobilizer so it shouldn't be it. Appreciate the suggestion though man!
