Help! what's this!

Went to the track Sat. night, every thing was going well till my 5th pass. When the car launched it sounded like metal braking. Coasted to the end of the track. Car goes in to gear fine and drives fine straight, BUT when you turn right it sounds like metal hitting and when you turn left if fells like someone is hold the steering wheel against me. What can this be. The diff. or transfer case, what? Please help?

Sounds more like a steering problem...

What would be the first thing to look at? Could it be the rack and pinion.

Lift the car up and check. It could be the front differential.

when you look under the car the clamps on the inner axles boots in the front came apart, but did not spin grease. And the axles shaft stiff feel stiff which might not mean nothing. I had a acura GSR and broke axles alot on the bottle, and this feels really weird compared to that. AWD has so much to look at we just go a glimps of the problem last night on the trailor.

Put it on a lift and inspect everything closely. I doubt it is the front diff, because the car would not drive straight fine.

Hope I'm wrong, but I've heard exactly this description for a blown front diff. Let us know what you find out.

I put it on the lift and you are right, its the front diif. and I hope that is all. It goes to the shop today or tomorrow to start to take it apart. Anyhow not cheap and probaly a long wait to get it fixed. Be carefull for the ones that launch your cars. I dont get on it that much, only been to the track twice. It sucks.

Sorry to hear about your diff. If your paying for the rebuild you might want to consider the LSD mod that Ferrarokid and wtz have been working on. The thread is: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...threadid=67447

I am getting a new one, but I don't want to get on the car at all knowing that it is a fragile as it is. I see the thread you sent and he has not really tested it yet to see what it can withhold. I talked to John Shepherd and he said if I sent him my old one he will do some research on it. It should be pretty strong, but I have heard some bad things. I guess time will tell. I post back!
