Spark plug gap Evo 8

Hey ya'll, I could not find a solid answer for the VIII plug gap, so I went ahead and got it from the service manual and decided to share it with everybody, The stock spark plug gap is (.028"-031"). Also the correct torque for the plug is (25 nm -/+4nm) or (18 ft-lb). Just wanted to put it out there in case it was not already out there, so you don't get confused like I did

Gap can vary as mods and boost increase. That gap is good for what it was designed, stock Evos. After I got in the high 20's in boost I got blowout with anything over .026 on the stock setup and .028 on COP.

It varys by setup really, but good information to have nonetheless.

true, as i mentioned i was hunting for the stock gap since my car is not that modified (yet) , by the way, are you using a CDI or non CDI system? i was thinking of getting the spoolin up non CDI.

Non-CDI. As far as I can figure, unless you run 600+hp, CDI won't do any good I pieced mine together with Honda Denso coils and made a harness, ran me around $50.

.20 - .22 is ideal for high boost. I'm at .22 at 31psi of boost

why do you say that? The OEM plugs came gapped to .028" from the factory. and car is pretty much stock. And it pulls and runs fine. Just wondering why i should gap them lower? Thanks guys. And soon i will be getting the Spoolin Up COP kit for the 8.

If the car is stock then keep the gap within oem spec. If your car is modded and are running more boost, lower the gap. The more boost you run the greater chance you have at blowing out the spark.

Since you're stock just keep the plug gap within OEM spec and you'll be fine. But you essentially want to run the biggest gap you can without getting any spark blowout.

It's the other way, miss at high boost from too large of a gap, the spark is "blowing" out from the pressure.
