Finding TDC

How exactly do you find TDC without using any calipers, etc etc? Crank pulley does not have any visual marks on the side unless they are up top where the belt goes.

I explained how to find TDC the easiest way yesterday with a long extention in cylinder #1 when it is at its upper position on the compression stroke the motor is at TDC, which you can verify with the TDC mark on the lower timing cover and the crank pulley...

^^^ That's a bit difficult when you may have bent valves.
Also my crank pulley has no marks on it either... It does have a dowel in the middle of it though. Currently I think I'm at least very close to TDC, but that dowel is 90* to the right (towards the front of the car in the 3 O'clock position. However my cam marks don't line up... It's not looking good for my spare Evo 4 engine uhg.

What Freddy said. A long screwdriver works also. Do you have the timing cover off?

x2

-piston at TDC verify with some object in the cylinder
-need at least one timing mark for confirmation, cam gear, crank, etc.
