Angry GEICO insurance gave me the BIG shaft! for my modded EVO...

A few months ago I posted this https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=180914 because I had questions about insurance on a modded car...

Well I just received a call from GEICOs underwriting department saying that my vehicle will be dropped due to extensive modifications. WTF!

Now I will have to park it...until I find a new company...this really sucks

So lesson learned...if your modded be careful what mods you list to insurance companies

Yeah...when I went to get a price quote for monthly payments with Geico about dropping my 03 ES for an 03 Evo(it will only go up $30 a month), he asked if I was planning on modding, so I just told him NO. When he asked I figured it would be alot more if I told him I would.

I listed the 2.3 motor, all gauges (6), rims tires (gram lights 57s), samco hoses, BOV,... I

cant remember what else I put on the list... but I think listing the motor may made them

decline the coverage.

I have a clean record... 1 accident in 1992 (knock on wood)

They said the... "mods are against their policy and lately to many claims for vehicles with

modifications... then she said...were sorry sir but we will continue to cover your truck"

I like State Farm. It is all that I have ever used. I get discounts for having multiple vehicles, and for not having any tickets for the last 5 years. Just the other day I decided to check out qoutes from Geico and Progressive, like the adds on tv always tell you. Went on the internet, both were a couple of hundred dollars higher than State Farm.

Dont tell them anything, try progressive I have never had any issues with them. Cheap too only like 130 for my wife and I and 2 cars (full coverage Civic and EVO) . We both have clean records though.

The problem with not listing mods with your insurance company is you won't have coverage. Your $35k EVO will be covered for a replacement cost of $20,000. I am looking for declared value coverage (I think that is what they call it anyway). It is very common and easy to get for vintage cars, but I'm trying to find someone to do it on the EVO. I'll keep you posted.

for State Farm! i called my agent the other day to ask what would be covered on my car in the case of theft (we've had ALOT of thefts in my area lately) and i told him about all my mods. he just said with my policy "no problem" & to make sure i have all my receipts and they will be covered along with my car. we have always done business with them and i wouldn't go anywhere else just to saved a couple hundred dollars a yr.

btw- i pay $150/month full coverage w/ a $250 deductible!
