THE END ALL E85 Thread.

ONLY POST IF YOU KNOW FOR SURE.

what do the EVOs need to make E85 work on our cars. If some Guru can make a list of the parts needed, injector sizes for certain amount of boost, etc. This will be helpful to all. and posibly get a sticky created to help answer everyones question. also what kinds of MPG do you run on E85?

anything related to E85 on our cars post.

E85 is the new Ethanol based fuel (made from 85% corn ethanol, costs about $2.35 a gal). It has an octane rating of 105.

E85 Official Website: http://www.e85fuel.com/

Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E85

In order to run E85 (ethanol), you must replace all your RUBBER fuel lines with ethanol safe lines. These lines include the lines from the fuel pump to the hard line, the line from the hard line to the fuel rail, the return line from the fuel pressure regulator to the return hard line, and the line from the return hard line to the gas tank.

The injector seals, which are rubber, need to also be replaced with ethanol safe ones.

So the basic rule is, anything that is rubber that will come in contact with the ethanol must be replaced.

After those are replaced, you can increase the boost and tune the car for much more power since you gaining over 15 octane points.

Hope that helps!

In a somewhat related topic... does anyone know if Florida will be getting E85 anytime soon? I searched and there is no Ethanol for sale within 100 miles of West Palm Beach at this time. I can't wait, it's like race gas all the time, only cheap as pump gas!

Thanks,

Thanks,
There are a few stations already in Florida but mostly in the Northern part of the state.

From what I've read you need roughly 33% more fuel when running E85 compared to gasoline. So if you know what injector/pump combination will work for your power goals on gasoline, add 33% to make similar power in E85. So 1000cc injectors on E85 will be about the same as 750cc injectors on gasoline. Pumps are a little more complicated since flow drops as pressure rises so it will depend on what boost levels you're planning on running, but any of the double pump setups should be more than enough for most applications.

Not really willing to search and paste my last technical post on this subject but.

For those that heard E85 is conductive take into account it has an Ohms rating of several BILLION ohm's per cm.

specifically 1.35 X 10^9 ohms / cm

No worries about electrical issues.

so where can you get E85 safe rubber? and since you need to run more E85 to maintain the correct AFR it would be safe to assume that fuel economy will be less (about 33%)?

and for ppl like me....running the mods i have listed in my my sig....would i gain HP/TQ from running E85? assuming boost and everything remains the same.

VIII stock turbo
HKS 272's
TBE
PTE 780's
255hp
2.5 piping and bigger IC (ETS brand piping and IC)

401whp and I am using about all my fuel. Will have a FPR gauge in next week so I will know if I am droping pressure.

Stock rail and lines

I use a gas WB and it tunes the same as gas. I have pushed a few cars into the mid 12s on WOT pulls with no problems but dont seem to gain much power past 11.5. My car starts going above 11.5 at 5.5k and goes to about 12.0 and there is no more fuel to give up there.

The rubber in your fuel system is fine for e85 anything after 88 should be fine because then they made it a must from the automakers to run 10%

BTW i have been running it 4 years in my honda and it has been fine with just a 255lph pump and 720cc injectors

Keep an eye on blend changes, E85 can vary between 70-85% ethanol.. In the colder months when theres less ethanol in the mix you need to run less fuel, timing and boost and in the warmer months you'll need to add fuel and can run more timing/boost.

the blend schedule depends on your region, its in appendix A of this pdf
